01. The Lake

Where is it?! WHERE IS IT.

My older brother was screaming from down the stairs by the time I found my dad's watch "Madison! We do not have time for this! We need to go get Lori and Carl! Hurry the fuck up!".  I sighed walking down the stairs with a medium sized duffel bag full of clothes and essentials."You better not have packed anything fucking stupid Madison." As Shane saw my small smile drop, he immediately pulled me into a hug and said "Look sweet pea, I don't know what's happening..I just need to make sure they are okay and to get all of y'all out of the city" I just nodded until he let go and we set off for the Grimes house. 

As we were driving through the neighborhood there was one thing I was noticing...people were attacking each other and eating one another. A worried and disgusted look swept over my face as I turned to my brother saying "What the hell is happening Shane." He looked concerned as he turned into Lori's driveway but ignored me, rushing to the front door to help gather the rest of their belongings.

I waited a few seconds before following my brother to the front door as I asked the older women "Lori. What is happening?! Shane won't tell me". She looked panicked when she finally looked up at me,"We don't know honey, its some sort of virus, we just need to get out of the city okay? Can you to help Carl pack his things?" "Yes ma'am"

                              1 month later
"No. You are not going Madison. That is that." Shane said after the 5th time I asked to go on the supply run into Atlanta. I scoffed and yelled loudly as he walked away "WHY CANT I DO ANYTHING! ITS BULLSH-" Before I could finish, I saw Carl and the other kids nearby so I kept quiet and decided to go for a swim in the lake.

God. I hate it here. I miss Rick. He made Shane normal, now he has to take care of Carl Lori and me. It's bullshit. "What's going on in that pretty little head of yours?" I heard my best friend Glenn ask. Well he's my best friend, I don't know if he feels the same way. Slowly getting closer to the Lake,I said"Oh, nothing Glenn. Just thinking about life before this you know?" He laughed at my comment, replying with "I was a boring Pizza boy, so I honestly like this more. I'm so much more of a help here than I ever was before the virus...I am going to miss this view though..and you, you little fucker" He said smiling at me as we approached the lake. I returned the smile "Oh your the little fucker" Pushing him closer and closer to the lake before he picked me up and threw me in.

The cool water hit me like a wave. It felt amazing in the Georgia heat. Oh i'm so going to get him back. "Ow Glenn! I think I hit one of the rocks, my ankle really hurts, help me out please" Holding out my hand for him to hopefully help me. A worried look rushed onto his face "Oh shit Madi, I'm so sorry" he said as he grabbed into my hand but unfortunately for him, I pulled him into the water with me. "You little fucker!" Laughing once he swam up to me. I couldn't help but burst out laughing until Merle Dixon walked up. "Hey pretty girl, I hate to break up you and your boyfriends fun time but we need to go on our run. Now." He said smirking staring at Glenn and I as we climbed out of the lake, Glenn covering me the whole time.

Everyone knew Merle made the women uncomfortable at camp but he made me especially uncomfortable, in less than 4 months I would be 18 but who knows what he would do to me if Shane and the other men weren't here.

Once Merle left us alone, we made our way back up to camp to meet the rest of the group who were saying goodbye to the rest of the supply run group. That's when it hit me that Glenn actually had to go to into the city with all the geeks. The thought was the only thing I could think of until they were all packed in the car.

"Come back in one piece, and fully intact. I need you Glenn, I mean it" I said as I hugged my best friend for what it seems like hours. He laughed at my words "I'm always safe, you and I both know that Mad-" "Promise me." "I promise Madison" He said slowly pulling out of my grasp, and placed a soft kiss on my forehead which made Shane give him a death glare as Glenn walked to get in the backseat of the car.
