Kenya had just finished her shift, she hadn't prepared her own food because of all the disorganization she had been going through, although she didn't like cafeteria food she just had to have lunch.
She put some simple salads, bacon, eggs and avocado. She was about to eat when Dr Wang requested to sit down. She didn't have any objection, during her stressful moments,Dr Wang would bring her some drinks, although he didn't talk much, his presence helped Kenya a lot.
" Would you like some of my food?" Dr Wang asked. Kenya turned towards him uncertainly.
" I packed too much of it today ,you can see my lunch box for yourself " He added.
Kenya hated cafeteria food so she readily agreed. Jacob then divide his lunch evenly.
" It's so good! It's normal rice but something is different " kenya said as her eyes shined brightly. Wang gently smiled.
" That is chao Fan in Chinese similar to bibimbap in Korean." Dr Jacob Wang explained.
"What is your nationality?" Kenya curiously asked.
"Well my mother is Chinese and my father is Korean but I identify more with my Chinese side. What of you?" Wang explained and asked.
" You can say that my parents were first generation African immigrants." Kenya replied
"Did you cook this yourself?" Kenya asked.
" Yes ,I learnt how to cook most of our traditional meals. During Chinese new year,we cook together as a whole family, that's a rule my nai nai put up,I mean my grand mother." Wang said.
" That's good,it keeps the family together." Kenya said. They had lunch in a harmonious atmosphere.
"Are you okay now? I mean what happened last time." Dr Jacob asked. Kenya became silent for awhile. " I am sorry for asking,it's just that I saw you were so sad for the past weeks,I couldn't help but ask" wang added.
" Its nothing much,me and my ex boyfriend had been together for the last three years,I guess things weren't meant to be from the start." Kenya said.
"I am so sorry, you deserve so much better,I couldn't help but see that everyone in the hospital and patients have a very good impression of you. You have a clean spirit" Dr Jacob elaborated. Kenya silently smiled.
" You have a way with words" she remarked.
" It's just an observation" wang said as he looked straight into Kenya's eyes. Kenya turned away from his stare.
" It's time for my shift, have a nice meal" Dr Jacob said as he packed up his lunch box. It wasn't until he left that Kenya noticed that part of Dr Wang's lunch box she was using to eat was left behind. When she turned to call him,he had already disappeared in the hospital corridors.
