Fox hated this wretched island. She ways tripped over stupid roots and tree sumps. If Cayden hadn't been with Fox every time she entered the forest, she'd have too many scars to count.
Dolphin Island was a nice forested place, by all means, and for some people it was comfortable. Fox just couldn't seem to be a part of those people who thought it was the greatest thing. She only wanted to be back in Ellamenta, with her mother, who cared dearly for her. Now all she had was Cayden and his father. They had become her adopted family after the fall of Pulcharius, and sure, she loved them, but she really wanted to go home. If only she hadn't run off as a kid...
"Hey, you alright?" Cayden asked, approaching Fox.
As of now, Fox was sitting on the roof of their little hut, letting the sun warm her face. "Yeah," She said. "Just feeling a bit homesick, but since when is that not normal for me?"
She heard a thump beside her, indicating Cayden had sat down next to her. Most likely, he came through the door from the attic, which opened up to the roof. Fox lived in the attic, so she had an easy route to the roof, where she liked to hang out. Luckily, for being blind, she never fell of the edge.
"One of these days, we're both gonna get off this island, and we're gonna find your mom. I'll help you with it. If you know where her house is, how hard can it be?" Cayden replied.
"There's multiple things that could've happened to her, Cayden." Fox replied, her hair moving in the breeze.
"Yeah, so?" He retorted. "There's still a slim chance she's back at her house right now, waiting for you."
Fox shrugged. "Whatever." She said, not wanting to get all depressed over someone she only knew for four years. She'd known Cayden for fifteen, so he and his father were the ones who mattered right now. "Let's go get a sandwich."
As Fox stood, Cayden did as well. They headed to the door that opened into the attic, and hopped through. Cayden shut it behind the two, Fox then traveling a bit further away from him.
Stairs. They were Fox's worst enemy. No matter how many stairs she had walked up, all were in different sizes and shapes, and she barely knew this staircase. It was one of the disadvantages of being blind. So instead of using the stairs, Fox made her own earth pillars with her powers, then hopped from pillar to pillar till she was back on the ground. She smiled when her feet hit the wood, and made the pillars sink back into the ground, causing Cayden, who had been trying to cross them, to fall. Fox had Ellamentian blood, meaning she could control the elements, though fire and earth were easiest for her to control. It was rare to find an Ellamentian who could control more than two elements.
"Good morning Azeria, Cayden." Sark, Cayden's father, said. Fox could hear the smile in his voice.
Fox rolled her eyes. "Don't call me that. I prefer Fox."
"You've only preferred Fox since you were fifteen, and only because you thought Azeria sounded prissy. I liked Azeria, and I thought it fit you, so I'm going to call you that," Sark replied.
Fox and Sark had this conversation almost every morning. The conversation over which name better suited her, and honestly, Fox didn't expect it to ever end. They'd most likely have this conversation every morning until Sark or Fox died. Both of them were very stubborn.
"Anyway," Sark continued, "I've made you two sandwiches, as I guessed you would want for lunch today."
"Thanks," Fox said, sitting down in her designated seat at the table. Cayden sat across from her, tapping his foot eagerly as he waited for Sark to lay the sandwich in front of him.
