I takes me a minutes to regain awareness of my surroundings. And the first thought that comes to my mind is Amara.
She can't know about this or even see this. I am not ready for her to know about the world I come from.I look in the distance at the blazing car that seems like a torn apart metal now with the raining storming down on it. This wasn't an attack but a clear threat. No harm intended by the distance that the car was placed but done to convey a message. "Get this cleared," I tell Kirill as I begin to move in.
"Should I inform your brothers?" He asks before I can step foot inside. I give it a thought and I nod, knowing that I am already facing the repercussions of lying to them once and I will not do it again.
I take slow steps in as my brain seems to feel a little hazy. Luckily I am not bleeding from the ear or that would have been a problem.
I close the door behind me to ensure that she doesn't get to know about this and that's when I hear Amara's worried voice. I see her run down the stairs and towards me. She leaps in my arms as she reaches me and I swear I am healed in that second.
She moves back reluctantly while still keeping her arms around me. "Wha-what was that noise?" It takes me a second longer to process her question but I can see panic in those eyes of hers clearly.
"Just- just an electrical mishap down the road," I lie to her with whatever comes to my mind first. And for the first time, she looks unsure of what I said.
Her palm rests on my beating heart and I realise that's it pounding furiously. You might not feel it but your body knows how to react to shocks. "I don't like loud noises," I come up with another lie. She cups the side of my face and stares at me intensely. She moves closer and kisses me in assurance. I let her dominate the kiss just this once and follow her lead. She pulls back and I feel she takes away a part of my soul whenever she leaves me.
"Will you get me a glass of water?" She nods and leaves to get it. I unlock the phone as I settle down on the sofa and check for any other message from that number but there was nothing. She comes back hurriedly and I place the phone on the table. I take a sip of water and then keep it down.
"What was the electrical mishap?" She asks as she sits down next to me. I lean closer and rest my head against her chest to hear her steady heartbeat. "Just some wiring problems," I tell her to brush away the topic.
She hums as she runs her fingers through my hair. We sit there in silence but my mind is racing to know who is behind this. Maybe Vikram bhai will know!
Someone knocks at the door and I sit up. Hopefully the sofa is not in the directly line of the door otherwise Amara would have seen a glimpse of the blasted car.
Mihir walks in and his gaze lands on us. I had thought that one of my brothers will check in with me. But I think I have made them furious at me.
He takes other step in and I was about to ask if my brothers know about this when Vikram bhai walks in with not one speck of rain of his clothes. He looks at me once and then at Amara.
"I'll like to talk to him alone," he tells her and Amara looks at me with slight hesitation. I simply nod at her.
