"but all I do is quake to her

breaking if I try convey it

the broken love I make to her

all that I've been taught

and every word I've got

is foreign to me

screaming the name of the foreigner's god"

THE TWINS

had always mirrored each other. Always similar, yet never the same. They were, perhaps, two sides of one coin. Yin and Yang, their aunt had always said. One put together by the slabs of earth, the other woven together by flames. They shared the same face, though their voices carried at different pitches. Just as the wind changed as its surroundings did; sometimes a whistle, sometimes a howl.

They were heirs to different things, having been born to the second daughter of Fire Lord Zuko and the Earth Queen, Lian. Though, that was much in the past. Their grandfather had long passed on his title to Izumi, his and Lian's eldest daughter. And Lian had, in many ways, never wished to hold the title of Queen. She hadn't wanted it, not since she knew what it was to truly want something in life. She hadn't wanted her daughters to have it, either, though not for grievous reasons, but rather fear. Fear of how it would shape them, how it would influence them.  She had held that power in her hands for nearly two decades, she had never wanted to hold it again. She'd known power and she'd feared it. Thus, she had given it away. Passed it along as if she were a guiding river in its entirety.
