Restless Night.

As the digital clock on your nightstand flicked to another minute, you sighed and glanced once more at your phone, lying ominously silent on the table. The message you had sent Hyunjin, a simple confirmation of your safe arrival home, stubbornly remained on 'delivered,' the lack of response gnawing at you as the minutes turned into hours. You had tried to distract yourself with mundane tasks around the apartment—rearranging books on the shelf, tidying up the already clean kitchen, and even attempting to start a new episode of a series you followed. But nothing could truly capture your attention or shake the gnawing worry.

The quiet of the apartment seemed to amplify your anxious thoughts. Each tick of the clock was a reminder of the growing silence from Hyunjin. What if he had second thoughts about your relationship? The possibilities began to spiral out of control in your mind, each more disheartening than the last. Perhaps he was reconsidering everything after seeing you with Felix. Maybe there was someone else, or perhaps you had said something that upset him unintentionally. The questions were relentless, each leaving a heavier weight on your chest.

Your glance shifted between the darkened windows and the silent phone, the world outside too quiet, too still for your roiling emotions. It was now past midnight, the streets of Seoul bathed in the dim glow of streetlights, too late and unsafe for a walk to clear your head. The idea of calling someone crossed your mind, but who? Felix had been wonderful earlier, but it didn't seem fair to burden him with your worries so late, especially not after the reassurance he had given you about his feelings toward your new relationship.

Feeling increasingly isolated, you decided that trying to sleep might be the best escape from your racing thoughts. You grabbed your headphones, hoping that some soft music might soothe you into sleep, a poor substitute for the comfort you felt in Hyunjin's arms the night before. Slipping the earbuds in, you let the melancholic tunes envelop you, lying back against the cool pillow.

Despite the music, sleep was elusive. You tossed and turned, the sheets tangling around your legs, each shift a reminder of the empty space beside you. The previous night with Hyunjin felt like a distant memory now, its peace and warmth a stark contrast to the chill and restlessness of tonight. You missed the security of his presence, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat under your ear as you lay curled up against him. His arms had felt like a fortress against the world, his breath a lullaby that had rocked you into the deepest, most restful sleep.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity of restless shifting and a carousel of troubling thoughts, sleep grudgingly took over.

The soft patter of the early morning rain gently tapping against your window was interrupted by an unexpected knock on your door. Glancing at your phone, the bright digits glaring back at you read "7:00 AM." A groan escaped your lips as you muttered to yourself, "Who the fuck?" Your love for leisurely mornings, a trait you'd cherished since childhood, made early interruptions particularly grating.

"I swear to God," you grumbled as you swung your legs out of bed, the chill of the apartment floor making you miss the warm sanctuary of your covers even more. If this was some unannounced building inspection or another trivial matter, someone was about to get an earful.

You wrapped yourself tightly in a robe, its soft fabric offering little solace against your irritation, and shuffled across the cold floor to the door. Pulling it open with more force than necessary, you were ready to unleash your frustration on whoever dared disrupt your rest.

"Yes?" Your voice was sharp, laced with a morning gruffness before you even saw who it was.

Blinking the sleep from your eyes, your gaze lifted to meet a surprisingly apologetic Hyunjin standing in the doorway, holding a bouquet of coral-colored peonies and a cup of coffee. The sight of him, so unexpected and earnest, froze you in place, your planned reprimands dissolving on your tongue.

"Good morning," he said softly, his voice timid and laced with an undertone of regret.

The sorrow in his eyes was palpable, and despite your initial irritation, you couldn't help but soften. "Morning," you replied, managing to suppress a yawn, the remnants of sleep still clinging to you.

"Can I come in?" he asked, his gaze hopeful yet cautious, like a puppy unsure if he'd been forgiven for a forgotten mess.

"Sure," you stepped aside, allowing him to enter. As Hyunjin removed his shoes, the familiar, comforting scent of pine and burnt wood enveloped you, his presence already soothing some of your irritation.

"These are for you," he said, extending the bouquet towards you with a gentle smile.

"They are beautiful, thank you, Hyunjin," you responded, taking the flowers and allowing yourself a moment to breathe in their delicate scent. It was surprising and touching that he remembered your favorite.

"I got you a coffee too...if you want," he added, holding up the cup.

"Mmm, I want to go back to bed honestly...but coffee sounds good," you admitted, leading the way back to your bedroom. After placing the peonies in a vase and shedding your robe, you climbed back into the warmth of your bed, now joined by both the coffee and Hyunjin.

The room fell silent as Hyunjin lingered awkwardly, his gaze flitting around, settling on everything but you. Finally, he broke the silence, his voice heavy with remorse. "I'm sorry I missed your text last night... I had to deal with family issues, and it took way longer than expected... Once I saw your text, I assumed you were asleep and didn't want to wake you."

"Hyunjin," you cut him off gently, pulling back the comforter to invite him to sit next to you. His relieved smile warmed you, dissipating any lingering sleepiness.

He set the coffee down and climbed into bed, wrapping his arms around you and nuzzling into your neck. You savored the comfort of his embrace, deciding not to dwell on the misunderstandings. "How did it go with Felix?" he murmured against your skin.

"Good, I guess," you chuckled. "He just wants me to be happy."

"Good," Hyunjin sighed, his breath warm on your neck. "I missed you last night... my bed wasn't the same without you."

"I missed you too, Hyunjin," you whispered back, a shiver running down your spine as he began to kiss your jawline, his touches light and affectionate.

He paused to look into your eyes, his hand cupping your cheek gently. "You really are the most beautiful girl I've ever seen... how did I get so lucky to meet you?"

"Right place at the right time, I guess," you teased, your heart fluttering under his gaze.

He smiled and leaned in to kiss you slowly, his lips tender against yours, tasting faintly of vanilla coffee. Your fingers found their way into his hair, and as you gently scraped your nails across his scalp, his breath hitched, his body tensing with pleasure. He was head over heels for you.
