Chapter Five
***
I don't care what Klaus will do about it, but I jump up from my seat and throw myself into Damon's arms. I tell myself not to cry as I bury my head into his chest. I feel his hands run through my hair and he whispers reassurance in my ear. "Shh, it's okay, Jules."
"I see that they opened the door to riff-raff now," Klaus scoffs.
I try to pretend like I'm at home in the Salvatore mansion and I'm not stuck with Klaus. Damon's still holding me.
"Oh, honey, I've been called worse."
"You don't give up, do you?"
Damon turns around, only one arm around me now. "Give me my brother back and you'll never have to see me again."
"Well, I am torn. You see, I promised Stefan I wouldn't let you die, but how many freebies did I really sign up for? And clearly you want to die, otherwise you wouldn't be here."
"What can I say? I'm a thrill-seeker."
Klaus grabs him by the throat. "Klaus! Put him down!"
Klaus throws him across the room. Damon catches his breath as he gets to his feet. "Come on, Klaus. At least give me Juliette. She shouldn't be involved in this."
"Oh, but she was involved in this the minute she showed up at the Smoky Mountains and insulted me."
I feel Klaus's breath against my neck and his arms hold me in place. "And she is lovely, Damon."
Klaus teleports in front of Damon, a small piece of wood in his hand. He stabs Damon in the stomach as he grunts in pain and then again. "Almost."
Klaus angles it towards his heart. "You want a partner in crime? Forget Stefan, I'm so much more fun."
Klaus looks back towards me, a sick smirk on his face. "But you've forgotten that I have two now."
"Leave her alone," Damon grunts.
Klaus grabs a leg from the table and forges it as a makeshift stake. Just as he's about to bring it down on Damon, Gloria sets it on fire. "Not in my bar. Take it outside."
Damon begins to slowly back up and he gives me a knowing look. I quietly grab the spare piece of wood behind me and walk up to Klaus as his back is turned.
I know it won't kill him, but it will serve as a distraction. I stab it into his back as he grunts. I run towards Damon and we both go.
I lock eyes with Stefan, who is walking back towards us. "Damon, I can't just leave him-"
Stefan looks at me with urgency. "Go."
Elena is waiting in the passenger seat and Damon in the front. I climb into the back. "Go! Now!"
I don't think I've ever seen Damon drive faster. I don't want to look behind me, afraid that Klaus is going to crash through the window.
I'm breathing so heavily and I'm terrified.

KLAUS MIKAELSON (3rd person)Klaus looks at Stefan furiously as the Salvatore reenters the bar. Klaus teleports outside, looking around in complete rage.
Juliette is gone. "You let her get away!"
Klaus approaches Stefan, so tempted to kill him at that very moment. "You'll see her again, I'm sure."
"Let's go find my sister," he mumbles.

JULIETTE ROSEI've never been more happy to be at the Salvatore Boarding House. My home. Even if I am here, it doesn't feel complete.
Stefan is still out there with Klaus and Rebekah. Thinking of the hybrid just gives me chills. He was so determined to irritate me and provoke me that I can imagine that he isn't done with me yet.
I was thankful that I was able to escape out of Chicago with Damon and Elena. It's just a matter of time before Klaus comes back.
I find myself driving over to Elena's house, where everyone should be preparing for the cookout. I just needed time to relax after the events of the last couple of days.
I knock and Bonnie lets me in with a smile.
I enter the kitchen, launching with my friends as Elena cooks. "The problem with my dad's normal side of the family makes for a pretty boring summer," Bonnie says.
"After the first few days, I would kill for a normal family," Caroline mumbles.
Damon told me all about how her father tried to torture the vampire out of her. "Care, Damon told me... are you alright?"
Caroline laughs softly. "Yeah... but you were with Klaus. I can imagine that was worse."
"It was something. He is something."
Caroline looks over to Elena. "When did you learn how to cook?"
"Damon helped a little," Elena shrugs, brunette locks falling down her shoulder.
"Damon's helping you cook now?" Bonnie questions.
"Don't judge. He's just trying to help. Ow!"
I jump a little. "Sorry, did I splash you?"
Elena's hands find the spot where her necklace is. "No, it's my necklace." When Elena lifts the pendant up, there is a burn mark.
"It burned me," Elena whispers.
This has to be Klaus or Gloria's doing. "I think I might know why..."

Later on, we arrive at the Lockwood Mansion for the cookout. Damon was right when he said that there would be a lot of chili.
Damon said he was going to the council meeting that was taking place inside, but he's been gone longer than I would expect.
I begin to head inside, searching for him. "Damon? Damon-"
What I walk in to is horrifying. Damon is boring Bill Forbes, Caroline's dad's, neck. Bill falls to the ground and I rush over.
"Damon, stop!"
I look back and see Caroline. "Care!"
Caroline rushes in and throws Damon against the wall. He deserved it this time.
Caroline rushes over to check on her dad, despite what he's done to her. I decide to check on Damon. Or knock some sense into him.
"Damon, what are you doing? That's Caroline's dad."
"He was threatening to expose us to the council! And he wants to control it!"
"You can't do what you just did."
Damon stands up when I offer him my hand. "I'm a vampire, Rosie. It's who I am."
