KARMA STAYED LYING IN HER BED, staring at the ceiling, her mind replaying the conversation with David. She couldn't figure him out—one minute he was teasing her, the next he was checking up on her like he actually cared. It was confusing, and she wasn't sure if she liked it or not. But one thing was for sure, he had her attention.

Her phone buzzed again, pulling her out of her thoughts. She grabbed it, half-expecting another message from David, but it was just a notification from Instagram. She swiped it away, deciding she'd had enough of social media for the night.

Karma got up, heading over to her closet to pick out an outfit for tomorrow. She knew she didn't have to look perfect, but a part of her wanted to make sure she looked good—just in case she ran into David again. She pulled out a few options, holding them up to herself in the mirror.

As she was debating between a couple of tops, her mom's voice called out from the kitchen. "Karma! Come set the table!"

Karma groaned, rolling her eyes. "Coming!" she shouted back, stuffing the clothes back into her closet. She grabbed a hair tie and quickly pulled her hair up into a messy bun, not really caring how it looked. She was tired and just wanted to get through the rest of the night without any more drama.

She walked out of her room and into the kitchen, where her mom was finishing up dinner. Kayden was still on the couch, completely oblivious to anything going on around him. Karma sighed, grabbing the plates from the cupboard and setting them down on the table.

Her mom glanced over at her, noticing her tired expression. "You okay, mija? You seem a little out of it."

Karma forced a smile, trying to reassure her. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a long day."

Her mom nodded, not pushing any further. "Alright, well, dinner's ready. Call your brother to the table."

Karma walked over to the living room, where Kayden was still glued to the TV. "Kayden, get up. Dinner's ready."

Kayden didn't even look at her, just grunted in response. Karma rolled her eyes, grabbing the remote and turning off the TV. "I said, dinner's ready. Get your butt up."

Kayden finally tore his eyes away from the screen, looking up at her with an annoyed expression. "Why you always gotta be so bossy?"

Karma didn't even bother responding, just headed back to the kitchen, knowing he'd follow eventually. She wasn't in the mood to argue with him tonight. They sat down at the table, and Karma served herself a plate, trying to keep her thoughts from drifting back to David.

But as much as she tried to focus on other things, he kept creeping back into her mind. She wondered what he was doing right now, if he was thinking about her too. The thought made her stomach do a weird flip, and she quickly pushed it aside, focusing on her food instead.
