I sat across from Adam as him and Antonio drank. I was waiting for Jay to finish up work when the boys dragged me out of the station and to Molly's. Antonio said it was an easy case but a frick tone of paperwork. And unfortunately for me Jay was given most of it. "Hey y/n, you know he's gonna call once he's done right?"
Adam stated as he saw me staring at the door. "No, sometimes when he's busy and tired he forgets so shush." The boys laughed at how focused I was. I could hear them laughing but ignored them as I watched the door. "You look like a very terrible undercover cop ya know that?"
Antonio said calmly yet it was obvious he was trying not to laugh. I turned to face them and as I did I realized Jay was standing right behind them. "Jerk." I said in a sarcastic tone as I met Jay's eyes. They all laughed, and Jay just kept staring at me. "Horrible." Jay said looking at Antonio. "Can we go home now?" I asked with a pout. Antonio and Adam looked at Jay and laughed before getting up and going to the bar.
"Sure love." That was all and off we went. On the drive home it was quiet, I knew Jay was tired since he agreed to go home without any argument. He loved hanging out with everyone at the bar after work, but today he just seemed off.
When we got into the apartment he tried to go straight for the couch but before he could i grabbed his caller and guided him to the bedroom. "No, I wanna lay." He whined as he was pulled away. "You can once you take a shower. You always feel better after you do." As much as I wanted to let him rest he always complied about taking a shower before work.
He loved to sleep in and I knew that. "but blanket." He whined again. He was adorable when he was tired. "Shower." I mimicked his whining tone with an added bit of sarcasm. He smiled at me as he stepped into the bathroom. "Shower. I'll make some food." I said but before I could get out of the bathroom he clung to me. He just hugged me tightly, I could tell he didn't want to let go. "Do you want me to stay?" I asked.
I felt him nod against me, I knew he had seemed off but now I was worried. I stayed with him and he seemed happy. I made him happy, and that made me happy. "Are you okay?" I didn't realize I asked until I got an odd look from Jay. "Hmm?" He tilted his head. "It's just you, you seemed off. I know you're tired but you always argue about leaving the bar. So are you okay?" I asked.
He gave me a half smile as he walked me toward the bed. "I'm okay, now that I'm with you." He stated. "Today was a simple case done and over but..." He paused for a moment, I could tell he was wondering if he should continue so I waited. "It's just today, there was this girl. She got..." His words got stuck, I could see tears in his eyes. "She got caught in the crossfire of Lindsay and a guy we were chasing. She was shot and she... She didn't make it."
I thought today was a simple case for them but I now realized it was for everyone but Lindsey and Jay. "She looked a lot like you." My heart broke when he said that. Jay saw someone who looked like me die... That's why he was so clingy, and why he didn't argue. "I knew it wasn't you but... For a brief moment I couldn't see anyone but you."
He stopped for a minute, I didn't know what to say. "I know you're safe but, I just couldn't unsee you getting shot. The blood on my hands. God I thought... I... I thought..." He was sobbing at this point. I didn't know how to tell him I'd be okay so I just hugged him. He clung to me as tight as he could, he buried his head in my neck. "I'm sorry you had to go through that. But I'm okay. I'm not going anywhere. I promise."
His breathing slowed and he looked at me with sad eyes. "Can I... Can I just hold you?" I almost didn't hear him he spoke so softly. "Of course you can." I smiled. He just hugged me and carefully picked me up off the ground, just enough to walk me to the bed.
We gently got under the covers his arms still around my waist. He once again buried his face into my neck, he pulled me as close to his chest as he could. He was warm, and his hair was soft. I just laid there with him cuddling me as much as he could. "Yr wrm" he mumbled into my neck. "You're warmer." I laughed. For a big awesome badass cop he was an absolute teddy bear sometimes. After a while he fell asleep, it was peaceful and I soon followed his lead and let sleep take me.
