"The engagement is this evening, not a month later. Work faster! You all will need hours to get ready," my mom shouts at Sara, Sahil, and Daksh, who are helping her pack gifts for the groom's family.
"At the speed they're working, I don't think they'll be done until next month," I butt in while lounging on the couch, with my laptop in my lap, making a few changes in the playlist for the evening.
Sara shoots me a stink eye, while both my brothers ignore my jab.
"Maybe you should help instead of making snarky comments while sitting there," my mother says, glaring at me.
I love my mother, but I also love to irritate her just as much.
I sit up straight, look at my mother, and with a toothy grin, I reply, "Sorry, Mom, but I've already done the work you assigned me, so I'm off-duty now."
She shakes her head at me and gets back to her work, knowing she'll have to bribe me with something to do extra chores. I return to my laptop, but my thoughts are elsewhere.
