“Sir, the team is currently in another meeting, but you’re welcome to wait in the conference room. They’ll join you shortly,” says a young girl who is clearly an intern, her voice trembling slightly as she addresses us.

Bhai nods at her politely, following her as she leads us to the conference room. As soon as we settle in, she leaves to fetch us some water. I pull out my phone to check my messages, but before I can even unlock it, it’s snatched from my hands.

I follow the arm that’s taken my phone and find Vedang inspecting it like it’s some ancient artifact. “When did you get a new phone?” he asks, fiddling with it.

I quickly snatch it back, and he gasps at my sudden reaction, looking genuinely startled.

“Don’t touch my phone with your grubby fingers, it’s precious,” I snap, dramatically wiping the back of it on my suit. Vedang stares at me like I’ve lost my mind—and to be fair, maybe I have.

It's Wednesday. It’s been two days since Ishani gave me this phone, and two days since I acted like a complete jerk and hurt her feelings. The memory of my words still stings. I didn’t mean to belittle her or her work. I don’t even know what came over me that day.

Maybe it was seeing her with him—that guy I can't stand—laughing and looking so damn happy. Or it was the fact that my mother is in town and the fact that she wants to meet me, or maybe it was my father and maasi's hounding, to meet potential brides at the wedding, shoving random girls in my face like I’m a product on sale. It all got to me, and I took it out on the wrong person.
