Nothing was more beautiful to Muffet than the chaos unfolding before her.
Sans's speech had thrown Snowdin into disarray-monsters were yelling, families huddled together with fearful glances, and children's cries echoed amid the noise. Muffet's many eyes sparkled at the sight, and a wide grin spread across her face as she scanned the scene for...opportunities.
In the swirl of the crowd, her gaze landed on a small monster child, looking around helplessly, their eyes watery with fear. Muffet tilted her head, letting her smile soften, and then approached the child with a sympathetic expression, her multiple arms folding gently around her as if to make her appear inviting.
"Hey there, little buddy," Muffet crooned, kneeling down to their level and placing a hand on his head. Her fingers lightly ruffled his hair as she leaned in, her voice smooth and honeyed. "Are you lost?"
The boy sniffled, wiping at his eyes, and finally broke, clinging to Muffet's arm as he sobbed. His small, clawed hands clutched at her, his tears and snot wetting her sleeve, but she kept her face calm, even as she fought an urge to shudder at the contact.
"Aw, poor thing," she cooed, though her tone held the faintest note of impatience. "Where did you last see your family?"
"B-By the s-stage," the child stammered, voice wavering as he pointed back toward the loud, unruly crowd.
Muffet's eyes followed the gesture before she turned back to him, forcing her sweetest smile. "Oh, how dreadful! Let's go find them, alright?"
The child looked relieved, nodding as he gripped her hand tighter. Together, they started walking, the boy's face lifting with hope. But as they moved, Muffet guided him carefully away from the crowd, leading him down a narrower, quieter alley behind a row of shops.
"Miss...Miss Spider?" the child said, his voice wavering as he looked around. "I think...this is the wrong way."
The sound of his innocence, that soft note of confusion and growing fear, was music to Muffet's ears. She waited until they were well out of sight of the crowd, hidden by shadows and the tight walls of the alley. Then, without warning, she turned to him, her smile widening into something more menacing.
"I know," she said simply.
The boy's eyes widened, a scream beginning to build in his throat, but Muffet was faster. Before he could cry out, she spun webs across his mouth, muffling the sound, then swiftly webbed his hands and legs, binding him in place. As she lifted him, she leapt onto the building's roof with ease, taking him far from any prying eyes.
In the dim light, Muffet's grin returned as she observed her trapped prey. His muffled cries grew softer as he realized how alone they were, the fear flooding his wide, watery eyes making her shiver with satisfaction.
"Ah, you poor little thing," she mocked, savoring the sight. "Struggling's only going to make it worse, you know?"
She ran one hand along his cheek, her other arms pinning him down as she planned her next move. Usually, she went for the eyes first, savoring the startled reactions, but today she craved something heartier. "Maybe a thigh," she mused aloud, letting her fingers tap along his leg as he struggled harder.
"Shhh," she whispered, almost soothingly, her hand twisting around his leg. "It'll only hurt more if you squirm."
With a sudden, brutal twist and a loud crack, she ripped his leg free, watching as tears streaked down his cheeks. His breathing became ragged, almost choking on his own muffled cries as the pain rendered him speechless. Smiling in delight, she webbed the wound, ensuring his body wouldn't turn to dust too soon.
