"Hey Ukraine, you were cheating!" A girl exclaimed. She playfully nudged a boy as they giggled together. The boy laughed as he turned his head to a blue and yellow boy. The boy, having no defence left, raised his hands in defeat.

"Fine, you guys caught me!" He shouted as his smile grew. Laughter filled the room as they began to pack up the failed board game. Ukraine went to check his phone.

His phone lit up
"00:09" It read.

The trio began to set up another game to waste time with, as they took a few sips from their drinks. As time went on, the feeling of delight swirled through the room. The mood was different to how it should have been. Although it was Purge Night, the atmosphere was filled with joy and innocence.

The teenagers laughed and joked without a care, their guard grew down each passing hour. The moon glowed through the clouds and shone onto the roads. A hooded figure prowled the streets, drawn by the scent of prey unaware. With efficiency born of long practice, he swiftly picked the lock and slipped inside.

Upstairs, the friends' chatter and music masked any signs of intrusion. Military boots began to quietly crawl up the stairs, moving ever so closer to the group of unaware teenagers. The lingering figure carefully wondered through the whole trailing through the home. The boots stopped near one door.

By the time the first scream rent the air, it was too late for any to barricade the bedroom door against his viscous assault.

"E-e.. stonia..." a white and blue boy coughed out.

Ukraine was the last to fall into a deadly slumber as a knife plunged deep into his heart after attempting to fight the murderer off with only his bare hands. As the light faded from his kind eyes, his final thoughts were of little Russia and Belarus left alone with their father's cruelty, and the thoughts then faded away into the abyss.

The shadow left as quickly as he arrived, their deaths now a number.

When the Purge was over and the grisly scene discovered, Soviet raged over the loss of his eldest mainly due to the loss of a money supply. But most vile of all were his words claiming that Ukraine ran away, and he had chosen to leave his siblings behind because he was selfish and hated them.

And so the cycle of abuse began in earnest, with Russia absorbing it all as penance for some imagined sin in leading Ukraine to his 'runaway'. The scars left behind would haunt him deeper than any knife ever could.
