5 years old;5 years old.
That's how old Izuku Midoryia, a Japanese boy and entitled N#1 All Might fan, was when he got diagnosed "quirkless".
The poor boy dreamed of a hero career, working next to All Might, the one person he admired the most, maybe even more than his own mother; and all his dreams got crushed in less than 15 seconds.. just like that.
It was too much to process: hearing the doctor explain how his quirkless state was caused by a dumb pinky finger problem while all his dreams, passions and devotions passed through his mind in a flash of light.
He realized the full extent of the situation when he got home , sitting in front of his pc crying his eyes out, as a video of All Might played in front of his eyes, the same video he'd watch countless times a day; now watching it with a different energy.
Inko, his mother, stood at the doorway getting emotional, she knew how much Izuku would've loved being a hero and seeing him like this.. it was a weird and painful sight to witness: the usual happy and energetic boy now reduced to a pile of sadness and sorrow.
She apologized and apologized. As if it would've make things better, as if it was her fault he turned out to be quirkless ...Maybe it was?
The next day Izuku forced a smile to hang out and play with Bakugou at the local park, tho it disappeared instantly when Bakugou mentioned his visit to the quirk doctor.
"Izuku! You went to the quirk doctor yesterday right? That Old hag told me, Inko told her.. do tell, what quirk did you get? Whatever it is I bet it can't compare to mine!!" Bakugou uttered proudly, not missing the chance to brag about his explosive quirk to the green head in front of him.
"... nothing" Izuku muttered, refusing to look at the other fella in the eyes, already feeling his eyes burning and watering in anticipation.
"Huh? What do you mean "nothing"? Come on be serious, I'm getting impatient!" The blonde one said with a hint of annoyance.
"Nothing.. my..sob..my quirk is nothing... the doctor said I'm quirkless.." Bakugou froze for a good 5 seconds before speaking in a low tone, as if to confirm what he just heard.
"W..what? You have no quirk?" Bakugou muttered In disbelief as he backed away a little.
"So you're just a 'Deku' then!" He half-yelled for the other kids at the playground to hear.
"Everyone look!! We have a quirkless boy among us!" Bakugou now yelled when he was sure he had everyone's attention, pointing his finger at Izuku; all the kids laughed at him.
"Ew is he defective?" "Thankfully that isn't me.."
"does that mean he is weak? Like a little girl haha!!" One of Bakugou's friend said;
"W-what?! N-no I'm not a little girl!!" Izuku said in a panicked and embarrassed tone.Bakugou's face darkened as Izuku dared to talk back to one of his friends "talking back now are we? Do we need to teach you a lesson? Maybe it'll help you learn your place as a quirkless nobody!" Bakugou said mockingly "w-wait Kacchan-" Deku muttered desperate but Bakugou cut him off as soon as he heard that nickname leave the green head's mouth.
Kacchan.
"Stop calling me Kacchan! That is a nickname that suits me very well I'd say but nicknames are for friends and we ARE NOT friends anymore!" Bakugou said matter-of-factly.
"I think it's time to teach the quirkless deku a lesson" Bakugou said smirking to his friends as his hands started glowing in anticipation....
That was in the past when Izuku's life was all flowers and rainbows; now it was... tasteless.
His routine was the same everyday:
-wake up
-get ready for school
-walk to school,receiving the stares of the citizens who had been labeling him as "the quirkless boy of town" for a while now, not caring about the consequences of their bullying; we're talking about a quirkless boy after all, why would anyone care? Heck the government probably considers him and that other 20% of the world's population as "liabilities" and he was damn well aware of that.-go to class, to suffer the bullying of the other kids.
Bullying a kid for being quirkless was acceptable, Izuku thought, but bullying a quirkless kid when their quirk is so bad people would choose to be quirkless over having a quirk if they were to actually choose? That was something he didn't understand, really.
He found himself wondering many times why Bakugou bullied him but not them..
Talking about Bakugou, he was very present in his life, negatively of course; he'd never miss the chance to remind the green head about his quirkless condition but Izuku learnt his lesson ages ago and barely even spoke back, going back home looking like a burnt nugget wasn't something he'd appreciate.-go home where he'd lock himself in his room as not to bother Inko, he was already being a burden by being quirkless, ruining her reputation and leading people to label her as "the boy of the quirkless boy" And he felt bad about it, people had no business bothering Inko about something she couldn't have prevented;
And with all the rumors going around about her he felt even worse, he heard any type of slur against her, rumors, theories, one of the rumors that bothered him the most was that one about Inko being a pr0$t!tute that had fun time with a quirkless man while cheating on her husband /his dad that Izuku never had the chance of meeting.With the passing of the time Inko and Izuku grew a weird relationship, it wasn't that Inko hated him, she was just.. passive; they rarely spoke the whole day and when night came Izuku could hear through the thin walls of their crappy apartment Inko crying her eyes out in her bedroom, but the next day she'd go on with her routine a if nothing happened, as if she wanted to stay strong for her son;
Eventually Izuku realized that Inko had no idea the whole building could hear her cries, but he had no intention bringing it up in one of their rare weekly conversations, for what purpose? To waste away the only time he could be communicating with his mother where the maximum of words spoken was 10? And by saying "mom, you know I can hear you crying every night?" He'd waste them all in one go.
Izuku calmly bared all the bullying, all the limitless he felt at home, all those depressing episodes, he's basically seen it all.
But he was tired
...
Something needed to change;
He needed to change.
