Kyran
At first, I didn't like the idea of moving, but eventually, I realized it was probably for the best. My twin sister, Mysha, got into some trouble with some girls from our old school. At first, it was a petty beef involving some guy that probably liked neither of them. They would argue, but they never fought until one fatal day.
It was a couple of days before our birthday, and Mysha was telling everyone about the party we were throwing. We always celebrated our birthdays together. We would discuss a theme that we both liked in order to make the party special for the both of us. This year we went a little more simple and threw a color-themed party. The boys would wear green since that's my favorite color, and the girls would wear pink because that's Mysha's favorite color. Originally, we were going to throw a costume party considering our birthday falls on Halloween—the party would be after Halloween though since we never threw parties on the day of our birthday—but Mysha changed it because Andy, the boy she and her nemesis liked, didn't want to dress up in a costume.
I'll be honest. It really ticked me off that his opinion was more important than having our birthday party the way we wanted it. We argued over the whole situation, but I decided to be the bigger person and just go with what she 'wanted.' Plus, Mysha was as stubborn as a mule, and if I didn't let her get her way, she wasn't going to let it go. She holds grudges. I knew she'd be petty about the whole ordeal, and quite frankly, I didn't have the energy to deal with any of it.
I went to class, and everything was fine until one of my friends turned to me. I looked back at her. She looked anxious, and she opened her mouth to speak but nothing came out. I tilted my head in confusion.
"Vi?" I said.
"Um..." she trailed off. "I don't know how to say this."
"Just say it."
"Promise you won't be mad at me."
"Why would I be mad at you?" I asked, crossing my arms.
"I..." she trailed off again. "Promise."
"Sure." I rolled my eyes.
"Say it."
"Say what?"
"That you promise."
I sighed, annoyed that I had to promise. I never liked promising things because, in some situations, I knew I couldn't keep them, and I hated breaking promises. She also knows that about me. That I don't like making promises I can't keep.
"I promise I won't be mad."
"I should've told you this sooner, but Mysha and her friends are going to jump Makayla," she whispered.
"What the fuck!" I yelled, now putting on a show for the audience in the classroom.
"Mr. Norris!" my teacher yelled. "That mouth of yours needs to be washed with soap."
"Why would you keep something like that from me?" I ignored my teacher's comment. She hasn't witnessed everything that I could say. It would be far worse than just saying fuck.
"You said you wouldn't be mad," Vi snapped. "You promised."
"Violet, I don't care about that stupid promise that you knew I wouldn't be able to keep." I rubbed my temples to soothe myself. "This is about some girl that's going to get hurt all because of some stupid guy that's not worth it."
"What are you two talking about?" my teacher asked.
That's when I realized she was still watching us, including the rest of the students in the class. I looked at all of them and then turned back to Violet, who was contemplating whether or not she should let my teacher know about the situation. Violet was Mysha's best friend, and if she found out that Violet snitched on her, she would cut her off in an instant. I was going to tattle instead because I couldn't let Violet do it, but she beat me to it.
