After the Sports Festival, he did get a short voice sent to him by Izuku on top of a rooftop, screaming his praises about winning and chuckling about what he said at the end. Apparently, Izuku had expected him to say 'undead dumbass'.He was close to doing that. He won't lie.
But now it was the Monday after the festival, and he was still hearing his friend laugh except this time it was something else.
"It's not that funny." Bakugo grumbled as he sulked down into his friend's upgraded car.
Izuku could not answer since he was sputtering so hard trying to hold back his laughter and focusing on keeping his hands still on the steering wheel.
He had made the mistake of telling his friend about what happened in his hero class inside the car that some chick in one of the support classes had been upgrading more and more. That extra was doing a good job on it especially since he had more room to put his legs in. It felt like the kid's car was merging with an actual race car with how much room and details were being added.
Bakugo could have told him when they were walking home before Izuku decided to offer a ride to get some bubble tea. He had only agreed to the offer because the place had good pork gyoza with spicy dipping sauce. So Izuku jumped at the chance to get in his car. And now he had to suffer inside the passenger seat while his friend poked fun at him.
"Wait, the name reminds me of something!" Izuku tapped his hand against the steering wheel. In the sunlight, he could spot the strands and little stripes of white in the green curls. "Didn't you want to have the words explosion murder in your hero name since we were kids?"
Bakugo looked away from his friend to stare at the street-side ramen shop they were passing up. A salaryman on a phone paused in their steps and stared at them while the car drove by. "Shut up!"
"It's okay, Kacchan." Izuku declared. That idiot had a stupid smile on his face as he drove down the street, reveling in the gobsmacked stares they were getting from nearby bystanders. "You're living out your childhood dream."
Bakugo slumped further in his seat at his friend's words. Those words weighed heavily on him much like the similar thoughts he had in therapy. Sullenly, he muttered, "We were supposed to be doing that together."
He thought Izuku would not hear him yet his green-haired friend said, "Yeah, we were."
His casual tone sounded like a cool observation like the other was reminiscing fondly on the horrid years he had caused. Bakugo kept his eyes away from Izuku who was fiddling with the playlist on his phone to play a different song.
Izuku continued to express his feelings as he took a hard turn on a street corner where a food stand was selling freshly made fruit crepes. "But life didn't end up going that way. But I like to think about it like nothing much has changed."
Bakugo twisted in his seat so he could watch the side profile of Izuku as he focused on the road ahead of them. One of those green eyes glanced at him while Izuku explained. "The only real difference is you are doing it the legal way and I'm doing it illegally." Then, with a mischievous smirk, he added, "So technically we are still following the same dream we had as kids."
"Back on the hero's name though..." Izuku trailed off with his smirk staying on his freckled face.
"Ugh." Bakugo groaned, rolling his eyes at the tone in Izuku's voice. He rubbed his hand over his face, massaging the space between his eyebrows.
"I mean, I know it was kind of like a pun on your own name's kanji spelling. But maybe it's just the murder part that throws them off. You could be King Explosion." His green eyes widened in excitement. "Ooh! Emperor Explosion."
