Ever since that day, All Might has been harboring guilt for the boy he had failed.
Over his years of being the Symbol of Peace, he had lost some lives along the way. And each loss had haunted him every night that encouraged him to push himself further to ensure that everyone comes out safe. He had cried once he made he made it back to his house each time that someone innocent lost their lives when he could have done something different to save them.
He learned from Sir Nighteye that Mirio was getting the hang of One for All quickly with Gran Torino's help. Meanwhile, All Might was spending time with Tsukauchi to talk about his thoughts. He was expecting to have another day of having tea with him while he vented over the fact that he could have saved the boy that was just like him.
What he wasn't expecting was for his friend to hit him with the most unsuspecting news he had ever heard.
"Speaking of the boy, he showed up outside his second-floor classroom window the day before his funeral," Tsukauchi stated opening up a folder.
All Might spat out his tea over the carpet in Tsukauchi's office. He coughed into his hand, a bit of blood spraying out into his palm. "What?! He's alive?! I thought he died."
"Apparently, he did."
"What the hell do you mean apparently?!"
Tsukauchi sighed, pressing his fingers to his temple. "Yeah, this case is very confusing. The boy was reported by the hospital to have died even after multiple attempts to bring back his pulse. So he was reported dead, the funeral was scheduled, and his body was rested safely in the morgue. Then the next thing I know, about a week later, the hospital calls us on a missing corpse only to find out the corpse walked all the way back to his old school in his funeral suit."
"Oh shit," All Might mumbled against his hand. The boy was alive? How could that happen? Does that mean he has the chance to apologize for his harsh words that day?
"So now, my team is trying to investigate why the boy was reported dead when he is obviously alive. We got into contact with the mother of the boy to see if she had any answers. She just said that it wasn't the hospital's fault at all and that the boy had apparently gained a quirk that allowed him to come back to the living."
"That seems... very strange,"
"Yes, it does. However, I can't really look into the case now with the endless investigations that my schedule seems to be filled with. I will, however, get into contact soon with the family to see what exactly is going on. I don't want to do it right this instant because the family has been going through a tough time."
"I couldn't imagine planning a funeral for your only son only for him to show up the day before he was supposed to be buried. I agree with you. For now, we should give the family a minute to breathe."
Tsukauchi nodded, "I plan on scheduling up in about a month to get the answers needed to officially close the case. But right now, you tell me about Mirio. How is he with the new power? Is he proving to be a good successor?"
"He is no doubt one of the best candidates for One for All. He has the ability, the strength, and all the characteristics to be a great future hero to take my place as the Symbol of Peace in the future," All Might answered honestly to his friend.
"Yagi, he sounds perfect for the role. But why do you sound...off?"
"....The boy I met that day, the boy who died that apparently is alive now. I saw something in him that would have made him a great successor as well to my power. If the events that day didn't happen like they originally had, I would have offered my quirk to him. He has the drive to be a great hero, and I wished I could have told him that day. But now that he is alive, I might still get the chance to apologize for my past misdeed," Toshinori remarked as he cupped the teacup in his long fingers.
