Shaii's heart raced as she left the restaurant, determination coursing through her veins. She had to tell Lamb the truth about Aik's betrayal. Pulling out her phone, she quickly dialed Lamb's number. It vibrated silently on a table far from where he sat with Rihulaa Miss, his business class lecturer, discussing coursework. The room was filled with the soft hum of their conversation, and he didn't notice the call.
Frustrated, Shaii turned to Pop. "We need to get to Lamb's place. Can you give me a ride?"
Pop looked momentarily confused but nodded. "Sure, let's go!" They hopped onto Pop's scooter, weaving through the busy streets of Malé City.
As they drove, Pop suddenly screeched to a halt in front of a small shop. "Oh my God, look! It's my ex!" she exclaimed excitedly.
Shaii's face twisted in frustration. "Why the hell did we stop here?" she demanded.
"It's the guy who used to drunk text me all the time," Pop replied with a giddy smile. "He was always saying the craziest things after a few drinks." Already distracted, she started heading toward the shop.
Shaii sighed, her mind still focused on getting to Lamb. With no time to waste and no money for a cab, she had no choice but to walk the rest of the way. Just as she started, the sky darkened, and rain began to pour down, drenching her clothes within moments.
Despite the rain, Shaii pushed forward, navigating through the slick streets, determined to reveal Aik's deception. Her clothes clung to her body, soaked and heavy, but she kept going, adrenaline fueling each step.
Finally, she reached Lamb's apartment, water drops dripping from hijab and clothes plastered to her skin. She rang the doorbell repeatedly, hoping Lamb was home.
Aik answered the door, a concerned expression on his face. "Oh, Shaii, what happened?" he asked, unaware that his secret was about to unravel.
"Where is Lamb?" Shaii demanded, her voice edged with urgency.
"He's still at college. Why? What's wrong?" Aik replied, trying to sound innocent.
"You can't fool me anymore, Aik," Shaii spat, her eyes blazing. She took a deep breath and recounted what she had witnessed at the restaurant, every detail piercing the facade Aik had carefully constructed.
Aik's demeanor shifted instantly. He was tense, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. He struggled to maintain his composure, knowing Shaii held the power to destroy his relationship with Lamb.
As if on cue, Lamb appeared behind them, closing an umbrella as he stepped inside. He paused, surprised to find Shaii and Aik standing at the door. "What's going on?" he asked, his gaze shifting between them.
Shaii turned to Lamb, panting from exhaustion and emotion. "Lamb, I have to tell you something important." She took a moment to catch her breath before revealing everything she had seen at the restaurant.
Lamb listened, his expression unreadable. When Shaii finished, he looked at Aik with a calm, straight face, betraying no hint of anger or disbelief.
Aik swallowed hard, feeling cornered.
Lamb raised his hand, and both Shaii and Aik braced themselves, expecting an outburst. But instead, Lamb gently caressed Aik's cheek, a tender gesture that caught them both off guard. "I don't believe a word Shaii said," he declared softly. "Aik is the perfect boyfriend."
Shaii felt a sinking sensation in her chest as Lamb dismissed her words, her heart heavy with disbelief and frustration. "Lamb, I'm telling the truth," she pleaded, but her voice wavered, knowing her words had fallen on deaf ears.
"Shaii, I think it's time you leave," Lamb said, his voice firm but not unkind.
Aik smirked subtly, his eyes meeting Shaii's with a smug, victorious gleam. As Lamb placed a reassuring hand on Aik's shoulder, they turned to walk inside their apartment, leaving Shaii standing alone on the doorstep.
As the door closed, Shaii stood there, soaked and heartbroken, feeling the weight of her failed attempt to protect her friend. Her resolve wavered, but she knew she couldn't give up. Somehow, she had to find a way to make Lamb see the truth.
Aik's evil smile lingered in her mind as she turned to leave, determined to find another way to expose his betrayal.
