"Helena, speak something for God's sake", Damian said as he shook her shoulders.
She stood there speechless. It happened so quickly that she did not even realize that Bella was crying loudly. They were rushed out of the ICU, and the nurses shut the doors along with the curtains. Damian pushed her one last time, trying his best to snap her out of the shock.
"Helena, please", he pleaded as he led her to the waiting seats.
He made her sit down and took Bella in his arms, shushing her.
"Hey, hey, it is okay. Dad's going to be okay, Bella", he tried to console her, but deep down he knew that Edwin might never be okay.
"Why did this happen", Helena whispered in a broken tone, staring into space.
"Helena, don't-"
"He saved me, and I escaped from him. I never let him see his child, and now that I came here as fast as I could, he is leaving me", she said, a tear rolling down her eyes.
"Helena", Damian whispered as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder, letting her cry.
"I wish he had told me all this that day", she sobbed.
"Helena, calm down. You are not in this alone. It was my fault too. I...... need to tell you something", Damian said in a low tone.
"Stop talking bullshit, Damian. How is this your fault", she cried.
"I knew that day. I knew you spiked the Latte that day", he whispered while looking down.
"What?"
"Yes, you heard it right. I knew what you were planning all along. I did not want to stop you, because I felt that he was wrong. When I got to know the reality, it was already too late. I could do nothing", he said as he broke down into tears.
"Damian", Helena stuttered as she looked at him with teary eyes.
"Friends help each other, right? You helped me with my relationship, and now I am getting married. I wanted you to escape too, for yourself. My intentions were pure", he said while crying.
"It was not your fault, Damian. Please don't cry", she said as she wiped his tears.
"Let's pray for Edwin. I want him to be my best man at the wedding", he said with a sad smile.
"He will. I will pray for him to be your best man", Helena said with a smile as she wiped her tears.
They waited outside the ICU. Each minute felt like an eternity. Damian, Helena, and Bella prayed with their whole hearts. Maybe it was true, that the walls of the hospitals hear the most heartfelt prayers than any religious institutions. Finally, the room opened, and a doctor came out. Damian and Helena rushed to him, their eyes pleading for good news.
"We have successfully stabilized him. He is recovering very fast. I think he finally has the will to live", the doctor said with a smile and walked away.
"Oh thank you God", Helena cried in happiness and relief as she hugged Bella tightly.
She dropped to her knees, crying with a smile.
"Helena, don't cry now. Edwin is there with us", Damian said as he wiped his tears.
The next day, the staff shifted Edwin to the visitor's ward. Helena entered the room with a bouquet of red roses, along with Bella, who was dressed in a cute dress. She was holding her finger childishly.
"Hey Edwin", Helena said with a soft smile.
"This really feels like a dream", he said as he smiled weakly at them.
Her eyes again went teary.
"What happened", he asked worriedly.
"I missed your voice", she said while blinking fast to stop the tears.
"Hey, I missed you more, my sweet", he said as he tried to not cry.
"I missed you too, Dada", Bella said innocently, making the two of them laugh.
"Yes yes, my little doll missed me too", he said softly.
"Ed", Helena hugged him tightly.
"Yes, love", he said as he embraced her tightly, inhaling her scent.
"I'm sorry", she whispered through her tears.
"Shh, do not apologize", he kissed her cheek. "Damian sent you the package, didn't he?"
Helena nodded. Edwin glared at Damian, who hid behind the curtain.
"I'll deal with you later, Damy", he said with a smirk.
And exactly a month later, Edwin was running while laughing as Damian chased him for the ring. And the best part, that was his sweet revenge! He refused to hand Damian his wedding ring. Everyone was laughing heartily.
"Helena, say something to him, please", Damian begged.
"Ed, give him the ring back", she said sternly but then burst out laughing.
"Okay. I will give you the ring but on one condition", Edwin said mischievously.
"What condition", Damian frowned.
"Bella will have to give her permission."
Damian turned to Bella who turned away.
"I will take ten chocolates and five packets of chips. And Barbie doll sets too", she stated her demands.
"Ahh, fine. I agree. Now please tell your dad to give me the ring, Bella", he pleaded.
"Dada, give him the ring", Bella said cutely.
Finally, Damian slid the ring onto his fiance's finger as they kissed and sealed the marriage. Helena rested her head on Edwin's shoulder as they both pecked each other gently.
"I love you, Edwin."
"I love you more, Helena."
