It was early in the morning when Rehza was jolted awake by a loud noise.
Through blurry eyes, she saw the hospital staff wheeling another stretcher into her room.
"Another bed? Is another patient coming in here?" she whispered to herself, her voice trembling.
A nurse noticed her and offered an apologetic smile.
"I'm sorry for waking you."
"It's okay," Rehza replied, forcing a smile.
The nurse leaned in closer. "By the way, there's another patient coming here. He had a terrible accident last night."
Rehza nodded absently, a sigh escaping her lips. She glanced at her phone, the emptiness in her stomach reminding her she hadn't eaten. She slipped out of bed and headed to the hospital canteen. Alone, she sat, the food tasteless as she mechanically chewed, her mind far away.
After finishing her breakfast, she made her way back to her room, only to freeze in the doorway. A man lay in the bed beside hers.
As she opened the door wider, their eyes met.
Both of them stared, their faces etched with shock.
It was Linux.
"What are you doing here?" Rehza's voice broke the silence, filled with incredulity.
"Why are you shouting? I should be the one asking you! You didn't say you were hospitalized," Linux shot back, his tone sharp.
Rehza sighed, stepping inside, her mind racing. Then, a realization hit her like a thunderbolt.
"Zaina! Where is she? Is she okay?" Panic laced her words, her thoughts spiraling to the worst possibilities.
"She's fine," Linux replied, his voice softening. "I covered her with my body. That's how I injured my back so badly."
Relief washed over Rehza, and she sank onto her bed, her body trembling. "What an unlucky day," she muttered, more to herself than to him.
Linux's eyes narrowed. "What the heck do you mean by that?" he demanded.
"Did I tell you?" Rehza retorted, her frustration bubbling over.
"Did I ask you?" Linux responded, his patience wearing thin.
"Who said I'm talking to you?" she snapped, their argument escalating, voices rising.
Suddenly, the door swung open, and a figure stood silhouetted against the harsh corridor light.
