Working Harder, But Not Smarter

Months are going by now and Ford has been working hard trying to figure out how to make this multidimensional portal. His routine became that of him writing down possible ways to make and grab the materials needed for the portal before rushing to bed and waking up into the mindscape, as what Bill called it. Bill would either give him a simple yes or no before quickly changing to talk about Ford himself. Of course, Ford was happy to oblige and seemingly created a stronger bond between the two partners. Bill was interested to know every little detail about his life. Bill would often sit in a chair and listen to Ford ramble on about his day and normal chaotic human stuff. He would often chuckle at the little mishaps that would happen during the day before "comforting" Ford by telling him it was meaningless on the vast scheme of the universe. Ford would give him an A for effort for at least trying to calm him down.

"You know, I was thinking about telling my friend about all this," Ford explained to Bill, which immediately froze Bill in place at those words.

"Your what now?" Bill questioned as he looked at him intensely to hear his words.

"My friend. His name is Fiddleford McGucket and he's an incredible man who happens to be a mechanic. He'll be perfect for the job, Bill!" Ford explained with a wide grin on his face.

However, Bill didn't seem so keen on the idea of bringing telling another person their little secret. Furrowing his eye, Bill looked at Ford with his arms crossed out in front of him.

"I picked you for the job, not him, Sixer," He responded back with a little sass in his town.

"Bill, come on! If he works with us, the portal will be done in no time! Trust me on this, Bill," Ford explained as he placed his hands on his chest.

"...I'm only doing this to get OUR plan moving. We don't need another mind to be teaching about the world's mysteries. But I still believe you're capable of doing it just fine on your own," Bill scoffed as he rolled his eyes at complying to Ford's words.

Upon hearing Bill's words, Ford brightly smiled and clapped his hands together at the agreement.

"Yes! You won't regret this at all, Bill. Thank you for being the best partner!" Ford spoke up before closing his eyes in the mindscape.

Bill being left alone in the mindscape, he was surrounded once again by a familiar friend...silence. Bill hated the idea of bringing another person to his plan. Who does this person think he is?! Getting in the way of him and Ford's big master plan. He didn't want to upset Ford and plus it was a win-win situation where his portal would get built. But getting in the way of Ford? That was just too far. He suppose that he'll keep an eye on the two and make sure no funny business goes on. Just personal business. That's all.

Fluttering his eyes open, Ford realized that he was back in  his bed. He stretched his limbs out before getting out of bed and walking into his kitchen. His kitchen was a simple design with simple furniture. Ford didn't really care about the big luxurious furniture in his home as he would usually spend most of the time down in the basement figuring out the parts he would need for the portal. As he walked up to the kitchen counter, Ford had a bright smile on his face. Today was a big day afterall! He was finally going to talk to Fiddleford! It's been a couple of years since he last spoke to the guy and is ready to work with him on the biggest project of their whole entire careers.

Making himself a cup of coffee, he set it down on his table before grabbing himself his journal to jot down newest things about the portal Bill told him about. Everything was so fascinating about the other dimension. If anything, he would believe he was apart of the dimension, but was banished from that dimension and grew up here in this world instead! But that's just a weird fantasy he'll always keep in the back of his mind and never admit to anyone, even with a gun to his head.

Shaking his head out of his thoughts, Ford checked the time to see that it read 12:00 PM. Ford was surprised to read how late he had awaken from his sleep. How long were him and Bill talking last night? It didn't seem that long at all, but I guess the mindscape time goes by a lot quicker than here on Earth. Or, he just really enjoys talking to Bill which makes time go extremely fast. But it's probably his first theory (It really wasn't). Sipping on his coffee, Ford decided why not get the phone call over with now to settle his nerves down a bit. The worst he could say is no! But, that no would kind of hurt his feelings...it's okay though! Fiddleford has a wife and kids so it makes perfect sense why he would say no! So there's absolutely no hard feelings, he hoped. Walking up to his landline phone, he picked up his tan phone and pressed in Fiddleford's number and started to hear the phone ring. Ford could feel his heart racing immediately his chest and his palm started to get sweaty as he held onto the phone. He tried to take a deep breath, but nothing seemed to be helping as he heard the phone ringing.

"Calm yourself down, Ford! It's just Fiddleford! You know him..." Ford murmured to himself as he tried to shake off his nerves.

Suddenly, he heard the ringing stop and a voice say, "Hello? Fiddleford Computermajigs."

Oh right, he had forgotten how Fiddleford was trying to build computers after graduating from college. Wonder how that's being going for him.

"Ah! Fiddleford! It's me, Ford! Stanford Pines from Backupsmore," He replied as he leaned up against the wall to settle his nerves.

"Ford Pines! Why hello! What's with the unexpected call? Yer not getting married are you?" He questioned as Ford shook his head and softly snickered at his friend's words.

"No, don't be expecting to anytime soon. However, I have something that you might be interested in building..." Ford explained with a hint of suspense for the man.

"Go on..." He replied back as Ford was twiddling with the phone wire as he heard McGucket's voice.

"Listen, I'm trying to build a trans-universal poly-dimensional meta vortex and I'm wondering if you can help me, old friend. It's too much for just one person to handle all alone. So what do you say?" Ford explained to the best of his ability without stuttering or rambling on too long about the portal.

"Well, that's mathematically feasible! I reckon..." McGucket spoke before Ford could hear him spitting into a vase, some habits never die.

"Well, great! That's wonderful actually! You think you could come by Gravity Falls and we both can get started on it?" Ford questioned as he pushed himself off the wall to listen in with a bright smile on his face.

"'Course I can! I'll start packing right now! I'll see you soon alright buddy?" He replied back as Ford nodded before realizing that McGucket can't really see him.

"Yes, yes! Talk soon, old friend!" Ford replied back with such enthusiasm that he was sure Fiddleford could hear it.

Ford hung up the phone with the brightest smile etched on his face before sitting back down in his seat. He would need to make sure everything was extra prepared for his arrival! He'll need to get supplies for McGucket to do his research and plan out how to actually build the machine itself. He knew it was a good idea to bring McGucket on this mission. Bill would just have to see for himself that he's not such a bad person to know!
