C'mon you all can do it.In our story, the lady is going to come back. She is going to hold her monster's hand when his demons call out to him. She is going to sit beside him and wear his fervent presence as her armor and fight her own demons.
I slid down to the ground; the cold floor beckoned me to rest my aching soles when an hour passed. He doesn't open the door, and I let him have his space while looking out through the window opposite me. From there, the moon peeked at me, sometimes hiding behind the dark, cloudy blanket of winter that January brought with it.
I pull my legs closer to my chest, wrapping my arms around myself to seek warmth, which the thin, flimsy material of my cardigan failed to provide. I shift on my sore butt to search for a better angle that wouldn't poke the sore muscles of my back. My tears dried, leaving behind a sticky remnant. No matter how much they flow out, the burden of the penitent guilt will never be lessened. No matter how much I let it go, it will always stick with me, becoming a part of me. Forever entitled to stay with me. A thing I'm learning.
"Reyansh," I finally called out. I don't know whether he's listening to me or not, but something deep within tells me that he is right beside me, the thick wood separating us as his back presses against it. He was just like me, sitting and waiting. For something to take away our pain. Perhaps for an angel like those spoken of in books, who, with her magical touch, made everything right between us.
Did we forget we were blessed with that magical stick?
"You know, falling for you is the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me." A breeze sweeps through the window, causing the curtains to flutter. A shiver rattles through me. I lick my dry lips as I continue, "You once told me that the first time you saw me in the temple, when I was praying to the Deity to remove every shadow from my life. God listened to me, Reyansh. He brought you into my world. You absorbed every shadow from my life. You made me love myself. It's because of you that I am who I am. You saved me from my demons. Leaving you behind and starting a life without you was something I could never truly digest. No matter what."
No words come from the other side.
I take a deep breath, gazing at the charm bracelet dangling before my eyes—the star one. "You were the darkness that made me appreciate my light. You were the moon that made me cherish my scars. You were the one who brought Veer into my life. You were the one who introduced me to a fiercer version of myself. You were the one I want the waves of my love to touch."
Again, silence greets me. Heavy. Unsettling. Foolishly enveloping me, urging me to give up. I shake my head, gulping my tears. "I know I am late. A lot, indeed. I realized this the moment those thoughts came, telling me to give up. I realized how much I need you to keep my sanity. I realized how deeply I love you. I love you for who you are."
