"KENNY? KENNY!"
Kenny blinked and grunted as his eyes flickered open.
He really hadn't died.
As he looked up, he was greeted by the sight of a short brown haired girl standing over him, tears welling up in her eyes.
Karen.
"Kenny! Are you okay? Oh god, oh god- I knew something was off! I left Tricia's house a few minutes ago- and I just had this feeling-" Karen sobbed. "Please be okay!"
Kenny felt terrible. His stomach hurt like hell, and his throat was killing him. He felt exhausted and wide awake at the same time.
Kenny tried to speak, but all that came out at first was a pathetic wheeze.
Karen wiped her eyes with the sleeve of her green shirt. "I can get mom-"
Kenny quickly shook his head, attempting to clear his throat. "K-Karen; I'm okay." Kenny uttered, his voice scratchy. He didn't want to tell her what the hunger he was experiencing led him to do, so he made sure to be careful with his words.
"I-" He coughed. "I just caught a little cold." He lied. "I was just trying to get fresh air, and I guess I just-"
Karen cut him off. "But Kenny, you're bleeding!"
Kenny brought his gloved hand up to his mouth. He knew Karen noticed that it was stained with blood, and he probably had dry blood all over the area around his mouth. But he felt fresh blood oozing out of his mouth. "Shit."
Karen was sobbing at this point.
"Karen, calm down. I'm fine." Kenny grunted, pulling himself to his feet and almost falling over. Karen, despite being smaller, supported him.
At this point, Kenny wanted to die. He hated causing Karen, or really anyone to worry about him.
"How about you go off to school before I make you late? I gotta get to my bus stop soon anyway." Kenny rasped, trying to act like he didn't feel terrible.
Karen looked up at him with wide, scared eyes. "But Kenny-"
Kenny quickly cut her off. "I'm fine. No buts. You should really start off to school. Love ya."
Karen sighed and just stared at Kenny for a few moments.
"Okay. Just- feel better. Love you." She finally said, turning away.
Kenny waited until she was out of sight. He used to walk her to school all the time, but he stopped as she got older and walked with her friends instead. His gang always gave him shit when he didn't turn up to the bus stop, anyway.
He really didn't want to go to school. He just wanted to lay in bed all day. But he already had enough absences. Sometimes, when he died, he would miss up to a few weeks of school. He had good grades and he needed to keep it that way.
He knew he couldn't go to school with blood all over him. He quickly ran inside his house. Luckily, his parents were presumably sleeping in their actual bedroom as they weren't slumped on the couch as usual.
He ran into his filthy bathroom, taking his gloves off. He didn't have time to tear his room apart looking for extras, and he knew the bloodstains wouldn't come off, so he didn't even try.
