The next day, Jay, Carlos, Evie, Mal, and I went to goodness class. Only something was different. Rupert was there in class. Mal and Evie sat in their normal seats, and the boys sat in theirs. Rupert sat in the seat in front of Mal and Evie. That's where I normally sit. "What's he doing here?" Jay asks me. I knew nothing about it. I shrugged my shoulders and rolled my eyes. "Y/n, please take a seat." I sigh and sit down next to Rupert. He looked over at me, trying to get my attention. I kept my eyes straight ahead. "Class will start soon. I'm a bit behind this morning." She says. Great. He pokes me with his pen. I give him a death glare. "Sorry. I thought I had it on the other side." He pretends to act guilty. I roll my eyes. "What's with a normal dress today?" He wanted to start a conversation. I wasn't having it. "I talked to Fairy Godmother." I turn to look at him. "Let me guess, was it about me?"
"That's not fair, Y/n."
"Please, don't get me started on fair, princess. I trusted you for a split second, and now that trust is completely broken."
"No, you jumped to conclusions and didn't stick around for the truth." I turn away from him at that. "Then what's the truth?" I turn back to him. "I was never working with Fairy Godmother. In fact, I told her that I no longer wanted to talk to you after class. And now I'm here. It was my final chance to keep from getting expelled." I wasn't sure if he was lying or not. "Ok, let's say for argument sake that was the truth. How would I know?"
"I guess you will just have to trust me."
"Not happening."
"Why? Why can't you just accept the truth?"
"Because it means you were right."
"Alright, fine, whatever. As long as we are back to normal." I cackle. "You think this is fixed?" He sighs. "Fine. I didn't want to have to do this." He goes quiet. "Do what?"
"Either except the truth or go to the coronation with me." He gives me a smirk. "What? No -"
"I dare you." He interrupted me. Now, there was no way out. I have always accepted dares. No matter what. I also had nothing to lose, but still. "If you are truly bad and wicked. Take the dare."
"Well, then, I guess I will see you at the coronation. Since you're my date." He smirks even bigger. "See ya, then." The faster I accepted, the least amount of time I had to think about it. Fairy Godmother was finally ready to start. "Children, excuse me, um." Fairy Godmother begins. "As you know, this Sunday is Family Day here at Auradon Prep. And because your parents can't be here due to distance, we've arranged for a special treat." She started to walk backward. Jay, Carlos, Mal, and Evie started to stand up. "Oh, we follow?" I say confused. "C'mon." Jay says, waiting for me. We all walk over there to Fairy G. She turns on the screen, and Maleficent's face is right up to the camera. I jumped back a bit. I almost heard a snickering from behind me... "I do not see anything, nor do I hear..." Maleficent says. "Can I please see a remote?!" Maleficent yells. "Is this thing even on?" She asks. I saw my mother in the background. She looked quite annoyed. "It's broken." Maleficent declares. "I hate electronics." Someone presses a button, and it seemed to work for them. "Oh." Says Evil Queen. "Evie, it's mommy." Evie waves to the screen. "Look how beautiful." Evie's mom compliments. "Well, you know what they say, the poison apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
"Don't you mean the weeds." My mother says. "Who's the old bat?" Cruela asks. "This is Fairy godmother." I tell her. "Still doing tricks with eggplants?" Maleficent mocks. The other villains cackled. "I turned a pumpkin into a beautiful carriage." Fairy Godmother defends. "You really couldn't give Cinderella til 1:00 a.m.?" Maleficent says. "I mean, really. What, the hamsters had to be back on their little wheels?"
"They were mice!" She corrects. She turns to us. "They were not... They were mice."
"Thank you so much. Thank you." Mal says. "They were mice!" She repeats to the villains. "Hi, mom." Mal says. "Mal!" She gasps. My mother nudged her to keep cool. "I m-missed you." She barely gets out. "You children are never far from our thoughts." Jafar says. My mom rolls her eyes and rubs her temples with one hand. "I got it." Maleficent says. "How long must mommy wait to see you?"
"There's a big coronation coming up, I think probably sometime after that." Mal answers. "When?" Maleficent demands. "Friday, 10:00 a.m." I spit out an answer. My mom looked at the screen, hearing my voice. "Hello, flower." She greets. "Hi, mother." I answers. "How's school going? Are you all settled? Unpacked?"
"It's all good, Mother. I haven't unpacked completely, yet, but I'm getting there."
"Oh, goodness, your dress!" I look down. "It's beautiful. You know you got your taste of fashion from mommy." I look uncomfortable. "Stop talking." Maleficent warns. "You sure I can't see you before that?" Maleficent asks, still on the other subject. "I don't know what I'll do if I don't get my hands on that magic -" Evil Queen hits her horns. "You! You little nugget that I love so much."
"We love you so much." Jafar repeats. "Yes, I completely understand, Mother." Mal says. Cruela jumps up to the screen. I, again, jump back. "Carlos, is that a dog?" She asks. "Yes, yes, baby, I do understand. It would make the perfect size for earmuffs." Cruela cackles. "He's the perfect size for a pet." Carlos corrects. I smiled at his courage. "This dog loves me, and I love him. And FYI, your dog is stuffed!" Carlos defends. Cruela sits back down, stunned. "So give it a rest!" Carlos finishes. "Ohh, burn!" Jafar cackles. "Oh, why don't you go sell a toaster, you two-bit salesman!" Cruela bites back. "People who talk to stuffed animals shouldn't throw stones!" They all started to argue. Jay turned off the screen. "I'm so sorry." Fairy Godmother says. "Thanks for the special treat." Jay says. "Of course." I turn back to grab my backpack. Rupert looks at me. I make eye contact for a second. He saw my eyes start to water. Not even I knew if they were real or not. He gives me a sympathetic look. "M?" Evie asks. As we all grabbed our stuff to leave. "What do you think our parents are gonna do to us if we don't pull this off?"
"I think they will be quietly disappointed in us, but ultimately proud of us for doing our best." I scoff a laugh at the lie. "Really?" Carlos believes her. "No, I think we are definitely goners." Mal says truthfully. Mal and Evie walk away. "Hey, I'm proud of you for standing up to your mom, Carlos." I turn to him. "If that means anything."
"Thanks, Y/n. It does." He says.
