Isang malakas na kabog sa dibdib ang naramdaman ko after I click on the mouse.

Bukas siguro or next week, makaka-receive na ako ng response mula sa secretary nila. Hindi ko tuloy alam kung kaba ba 'to o excitement or natatae ako na ewan. Nanginginig kasi ang mga kamay ko at—

"ArchiTech," my short greeting.

Naputol bigla ang mga iniisip ko nang biglang mag-ring 'yong phone. Sa sobrang taranta ko, nakalimutan ko nang pindutin 'yong record button kahit protocol na sa company 'yon para mabalikan namin ang kahit anong conversation, should we feel the need to do it.

"I'm looking for Reai Narrine Alonzo," wika ng babaeng nasa kabilang linya.

I frown, staring at the small digital screen on my hardphone. Special Number? I lean forward on my seat and say, "Speaking. Who is this, please?"

Nakarinig ako ng ingay pero mahina lang 'yon. Parang pinasa no'ng caller ang receiver sa isa pang tao na naroon rin. Bigla akong nakaramdam na naman ng kaba.

'Relax, hindi ka mare-rape sa phone,' sarkastikong paalala ni Aego.

"Hello?" sabi ko pa.

Biglang naputol ang tawag at kunot-noo kong binaba 'yung phone matapos marinig ang busy line. Who the hell still pranks a call these days?

Sumandal ulit ako sa upuan ko at pumikit. Bigla kong narinig ang familiar 'ping' sa laptop ko, an indication that I've just received a new email.

Parang tangang inulit-ulit ko pa ang pagbabasa ng message na 'to at wala sa sariling napangiti ako. Siyete, si Sunny ba talaga 'to? No wonder, napaka-seryosong tao niya. She's a lawyer, for heaven's sake. Even in this short message, you'll notice how formal, reserved, and constraint of a person, that she is. Pero teka lang...
