The days following the competition were marked by a noticeable shift in the atmosphere within Dauntless. The initiates and members seemed more united, the lingering tensions easing into a cautious peace. Yet, beneath the surface, Abby could sense the unresolved issues still simmering.
One evening, as Abby and Eric were reviewing reports in the command room, Peter burst in, his face pale and eyes wide with alarm.
"You need to see this," he said, thrusting a piece of paper into Abby's hands.
Abby scanned the document, her brow furrowing as she read. "This is a list of members who have been secretly meeting in the training room after hours."
Eric leaned over her shoulder, his expression darkening as he read the names. "It's Brandon and Lucia's group. They've been planning something."
Peter nodded, his voice tense. "I overheard them talking about challenging your leadership again. They're saying the competition was just a ploy to distract everyone."
Abby exchanged a worried glance with Eric. The peace they had worked so hard to achieve was on the verge of crumbling.
"We need to act fast," Eric said, his voice firm. "We can't let this get out of hand."
Abby nodded, her mind racing with possibilities. "We'll have to confront them directly. But we need to be careful. If we come down too hard, we'll risk pushing more people to their side."
Eric's jaw tightened, but he nodded in agreement. "Let's gather our most trusted members and plan our next move. We'll meet them head-on."
As they moved to gather their allies, Abby couldn't help but feel a knot of anxiety in her stomach. The challenges they faced were growing more complex, and the path ahead was fraught with danger. But she knew that as long as she and Eric stood together, they could face anything.
