Chapter 13; Classroom Discussions.

The classroom was illuminated in the soft glow of the mid-morning sun, but for Lixue, the lesson seemed to drag endlessly. He sat at his desk, fidgeting slightly as Master Lu's voice droned on about the day's topic; martial souls and their core groups.

“The martial soul of an individual is not simply an ability or tool,” Master Lu said, pacing in front of the chalkboard. “It is the essence of a soul master's power. One which is deeply connected to a person's spirit and potential. Now, martial souls can be divided into different core groups based on their nature and abilities. Some of which includes animal-type, weapon-type, plant-type, and elemental-type. Each of these categories offers its own strengths and limitations.”

Ling Lixue glanced out the window, his mind wandering. He already knew most of this. His father was the Grandmaster after all so such knowledge was not hidden from him. What he was more interested in learning about related to real close combat, practicing power channelling techniques, or unlocking more about his own martial soul, the Blue Sliver Icic Moonlight Butterfly. He knew next to nothing about it as there were very few records about his martial anywhere.

He had tried asking his father for more information but it seemed that even he was lost for words. Ling Lixue also noticed whenever he brought up the topic then Yu Xiaogang immediately tried to divert the topic.

His mind flashed to the promise Uncle Micax had made earlier. The man was a complete stranger yet Lixue still felt strongly that he was a trustworthy person. Maybe he could even be of help to him in getting some answers to his questions.

As he contemplated with himself on his next step of action, Xiao Wu sitting beside him seemed equally restless albeit likely leaning more towards the combat aspect of their meeting with their uncle. She tapped her fingers on her desk in rhythm with Master Lu’s pacing while occasionally shooting her brother a mischievous look, as if daring him to do something to break the monotony.

Lixue in return would just roll his eyes or shake his head, trying to convey his unwillingness to allow her teasing to affect him.

“Ling Lixue, Xiao Wu!” Master Lu's sharp voice jolted them both out of their daydreams, their antics being noticed by the man.

“Care to explain the significance of soul rings in strengthening a martial soul’s abilities?” Master Lu asked, his brow raised expectantly as the entire class turning to look at them

Ling gulped, trying to recall what had just been discussed. Xiao Wu chuckled nervously but still gave him a playful nudge under the desk. An encouragement for him to speak up.

The white haired boy cleared his throat before speaking up.“Um, soul rings… they enhance a soul master’s martial soul and give them specific abilities depending on the age of the soul beast it was harvested from.”

Master Lu nodded, though his stern gaze remained. “And?”

“The color of the soul ring represents the strength and age it was from,” Xiao Wu added quickly, jumping in. “There are currently only four commonly known soul ring colours. White for ten-year rings, yellow for hundred-year rings, purple for thousand-year rings, and black for ten-thousand-year rings.”

“Correct,” Master Lu said, satisfied with their answer. “But let’s not forget the importance of absorbing compatible soul rings. A mismatch could lead to dangerous consequences.” He paused, looking pointedly at both of them. They had managed to escape his reprimand but that did not mean they were free from his scrutiny.“I expect your full attention from now on.”

Ling and Xiao Wu exchanged a silent grin as Master Lu returned to his lecture without anything else to say. To them, the lesson was boring, but soon enough, they’d be out of the confines of their classroom and hopefully begin learning something far more exciting from Micax.
