Kath rolled her eyes as she may her way down to the end of the bar where Lin and her cousin were sitting.
“Hey, last call, we’re closing up soon if you guys want another drink, let me know.”
“We’re good, thanks, Kath,” Sarah said, politely. “Sorry, we’ll be leaving soon.”
Kath smiled at Sarah. Lin continued to keep eye contact with her cousin, then slightly looked up to see Kath was still standing there.
“Right,” Kath said as she nodded and went to walk away. “Thanks.”
“You look good,” Lin finally spoke to her.
Kath turned back to Lin with a confused look on her face. “Seriously?” she asked.
“What?” Lin asked.
“You haven’t been back here in 5 years, Lin. You show up out of the blue, in the place that I work at and you tell me that I look good?” Kath asked, frustrated.
“Maybe we should save this conversation for another time,” Sarah started. “We didn’t mean to cause you any issues, Kath.”
Sarah and Lin started to get up from the bar. They dropped cash on the bar to tip the bartender and turned toward the door.
“Why the hell are you even here?” Kath called out to her, coming around to the other side of the bar.
“Look, Kath , I-” Lin began softly, looking at her sympathetically.
“Don’t. Don’t do that, Lin. Don’t call my name like that, don’t look at me like that, just don’t,” Kath spat.
