Lin was falling asleep on the couch watching the movie. Kath gently touched her arm. “Lin?” She whispered.

Lin shifted and opened her eyes. “Sorry,” she said guiltily.

“Don’t be,” Kath told her.

“I feel like I haven’t slept in days,” Lin explained.

“Why don’t you go lay down in my bed?” Kath suggested.

“Are you sure? I can get a cab back to the hotel,” Lin assured her.

“Lin, this is Netherfield, you know you're not getting anything this late” Kath laughed, causing Lin to laugh as well. “Seriously, come on. You need to get rest,” Kath pulled Lin’s hand to get her off of the couch.

Lin nodded and followed the brunette up the stairs. “I can take the floor, Kath-”

“Don’t be silly,” Kath said as she pulled back the blanket, gesturing for Lin to climb in.

“Thank you,” Lin smiled as she laid down in the bed.

Kath climbed in next to her and laid her head back on the pillow. “Do you remember the first time we spent the night together?”

“After the day at the lake,” Lin remembered.

October 2013.

“What was all that ?” Rose asked Kath skeptically as they headed toward the parking lot, referring to Lin and Kath jumping into the water together as they held hands.

“Shut up, Rosie. She was just being nice,” Kath spat.

“She’s weird,”

“She’s nice, Rosie. She was trying to help me conquer my fear of jumping off the ledge. I did it, didn’t I?” Kath asked, annoyed.

“I think she’s into you,” Rose started.

“Here we go again,” Kath rolled her eyes.

“Look, Kath, if you’re into girls, it’s fine but-” Rose started.

“I think I’d tell you if I was gay!” Kath cut her off.

“Well, whatever it is, I think you have a thing for her too,” Rose told her.

“Rose, Lin is my friend. You’re my friend. We’re all friends!” Kath assured her.

“Okay, but maybe you should know some of the stuff people are saying about her. I heard it’s true,” Rose said.

“Maybe you should take time to get to know someone instead of listening to rumors,” Kath rolled her eyes.

Kath turned to walk away from Rose. Lin was walking up behind Rose at that time.

“I heard her dad’s a drunk and he burned down their house! They were homeless for two years!” Rose called out after her.

Kath turned around to see Lin stopping in her tracks before she made it to where the two other girls were. Lin turned around to leave.

“Lin!” Kath called after her.

Lin continued walking. Kath started to jog, chasing after her.

“Good one,” Kath huffed as she ran past Rose.

“Hey! Lin! Wait up!” Kath called out to her.

“It’s okay, Kath. You don’t have to apologize,” Lin said.
