“Are you ever going to get up? Lin whined, slightly pushing Kath, later that morning.

“Jet lag,” Kath laughed, rolling away from Lin, pulling the blanket over her head.

“Kath, you’re in New York City!” Lin told her.

“It’s New Year’s Day, it’s recovery day. Even New York takes a day off, right?” Kath laughed, pulling the blanket back down away from her face.

“This is the city that never sleeps, Miller,” Lin winked. “You came all the way to New York to stay in bed?”

“Is that really a problem for you?” Kath winked, rolling back toward Lin. “You never used to mind being in bed with me all day.”

“Mm you’re killing me,” Lin sighed.

“Okay, fine!” Kath sighed. “What did you have in mind for today?” she asked, rolling out of bed.

Lin smiled at Kath, watching her climb out of bed. She was still trying to wrap her head around the fact that Kath was really there. Kath turned back to see Lin laying on the bed, smiling up at her.

“What are you smiling at?” Kath asked.

“You,” she smiled.

Kath returned to the side of the bed, kissing Lin softly on the lips. “I need a serious shower,” she sighed, making her way into the bathroom.

Lin had texted Mike while Kath was in the shower to see if he wanted to meet up for lunch that day. She was feeling better about the possibility of finally letting her friends into her life a little more. The pair arrived at the restaurant for lunch to see Mike already sitting at the table, waiting for them.

“He’s always early,” Lin whispered to Kath, laughing.

“Or are you always late?” Kath laughed, playfully nudging Lin in the side.

“Now you sound like him!” Lin groaned.

“Hey, Lin! Happy New Year!” Mike said, standing up to hug his friend as the women approached the table.

“Thanks, Mike!” Lin said. “How was the rest of last night?”

“Meh, not very exciting. Who’s your friend?” he asked, looking past Lin at Kath.

“Oh, Mike, this is Kath. Kath, this is Mike, my coworker,” Lin introduced Kath to Mike.

“Social media girl!” Mike laughed, winking at Lin.

“Wait, what?” Kath asked.

Lin gave him a warning look.

“You know, Lin, the girl who’s social media sites you were looking at when I-”

“Mike-” Lin cut him off.

“Oh yeah? Tell me more,” Kath winked as she sat down at the table.

“Yeah, no,” Lin said, sitting down next to Kath. “Kath is my..”

“Girlfriend,” Kath smiled.

Mikes eyes widened. “Apparently a lot has happened since..last night,” he laughed.

“I’ll explain later,” Lin told him.

“I don’t get to be here for that explanation?” Kath asked, teasing Lin.

“No,” Lin smiled politely at Kath. “So, Mike, I didn’t miss much last night? What happened with that guy you were talking to?”

“He was actually really nice,” Mike said. “Like too nice.”
