The funeral for Lin’s mother was scheduled for the next week. Kath and Lin had spent the majority of the week cleaning out the house and getting everything in order the for funeral. Kath had been there every step of the way over the course of the week. She didn’t want Lin to have to go through it all alone and she had enjoyed spending time with her again. She felt that, regardless of what might happen between the two of them, they were building their friendship back and she was really enjoying the time she spent with Lin.
It was two days before the funeral and the pair was tired from the week of cleaning and preparations.
“I’m so done for the day,” Lin sighed as she laid back, stretching her legs out the full length of the couch.
“Okay, but you’re going to need to move so I can be done with you,” Kath laughed, trying to pull Lin’s legs to the side so she could sit with her.
“Ugh, come on, Miller! I’m comfy!” Lin protested.
“I’m going to make you uncomfy really quick,” Kath warned.
“Man, she’s getting feisty,” Lin winked.
“Fine,” Kath huffed. “I’ll sit on you,” she said, sitting down on top of Lin’s legs.
“Deal,” Lin winked.
“Lin!” Kath protested, trying to get her to move again.
“Lay next to me, then!” Lin laughed, moving over to give Kath enough room to lay between her and the back of the couch.
Kath climbed over Lin’s body, briefly hovering over her, bringing her face close to the taller brunette’s. Kath looked into Lin’s eyes. She moved so close to her face that she could feel Lin’s breath on her lips.
“You’re impossible,” Kath whispered with a wink and she slid her body over Lin’s, getting comfortable in the provided space.
Kath propped her head up with her elbow and wrapped her other arm around Lin’s stomach. Lin turned her face toward Kath, grinning.
“What are you smiling for?” Kath huffed.
“No reason,” Lin continued to smile.
“So you really have to go back the day after the funeral?” Kath asked, bringing her hand up to Lin’s hair, beginning to play with it with her fingers.
Lin sighed. “Yeah,” she said softly.
“You can’t stay until after Christmas?” Kath asked.
“I really have to get back to work, Kath,” Lin explained. “I already missed one of my assignments.”
“I get it,” Kath told her. “I’m proud of you for following your dreams, Lin,” she smiled.
October 2013
Lin was laying on the ground outside of the school, at the end of lunch, near the football field. Kath came up next to her and sat down on the ground.
“Lin? What are you doing?” Kath asked.
“I’m napping,” Lin smiled with her eyes closed.
“Well, I suggest you stop because the bell rang and you’re going to be late to history,” Kath told her.
“You know my schedule?” Lin smiled, opening one eye to see Kath sitting next to her.
“Maybe,” she winked. “Now get up!”
“Aren’t you going to be late by sitting here and arguing with me?” Lin laughed as she opened her other eye and sat up, facing the younger girl.
“Well, don’t say I didn’t warn you!” Kath huffed as she stood up.
