Abandon all hope

Birds sung as the sun shone into my eyes, I faint hiss echoed through my head as my loft bed was being shook, I looked down as my friend and roommate Chiyo was yelling at me from below.

"Yumie? Yumie! Are you awake?!"

"Yes, I'm awake..."

"Did you forget what day it is today?"

"Pfft, no. It's like... Sunday, right?"

"No! It's Himitsu's b-day!"

I sighed and rolled back into bed, I'm enrolled in a college in Kyoto, with a business major. It's my 3rd year in college and I've slowly been growing a small attraction to a girl in my class. Chiyo found out a few weeks ago and has been trying to get us together ever since.

"What time?"

"Yay! It's at 10:00, don't be late!"

"Okay, okay. I'll meet you there"

"After I agreed she walked out the door, waving goodbye before she headed downstairs. I waited until I couldn't hear her footsteps and then sat up. Unrolling my blanket my face turned to disgust as I saw the long, slender tail attached to my tail bone. The scales were a murky black and gold and were riddled with pealed snake skin.

"Ugh, every day I'm reminded how much of a freak I am."

I climbed down the ladder as my tail flopped to the floor. Walking to the bathroom I grabbed my toothbrush, yellow has always been my favorite color but my tail makes me despise the color, however I still need a toothbrush.

As soon as I opened my mouth I saw them, my canines were replaced by two fangs, longer than my other teeth but still short enough to fit into my mouth perfectly.  After I brushed my teeth I opened a locked drawer, both me and Chiyo have one. Chiyo hides toothpaste while I hide retainers. Grabbing a new one I put it on, it made my smile look normal which I need if I want to stay as the popular girl. I walked over to my closet, changing into new clothes I coiled my tail around my leg and hid it with long pants.

If you couldn't tell already, I'm not normal, I'm a hideous abomination. I was born an unwanted child and was put in a scummy orphanage. When I was 10 years old I was brought into a dark room and put to sleep. When I awoke I was in another orphanage, and my tail, scales, and fangs were growing from my body. In fear of what I was i ran and lived in the street until I got a job and money, once I got an apartment I managed to get excepted into a good college and wad popularized because of my looks. But I hate it. Being popular, turning down boys and girls alike because of the way you truly are, and being a freak. I wish it was different but it's not and I've got to deal with it.

I walked out of the dorm rooms and walked down to the park, at 10:01. Chiyo ran up an hugged me before yelling in my ear.

"You're late!"

"By one minute."

"That's one minute later than when I told you!"

"Sorry, sorry."

We walked to the patio where the small birthday party was being held, sitting on the opposite side of me was Himitsu. She was medium height, around 5'5-5'7 and she has a delicate, girly figure with a nice face and calm eyes. 

"Yumie!"

"Hey Himitsu, I heard you didn't want presents today, why's that?"

"Oh, well this birthdays nothing special and I'm a little to old for presents anyways."

"Come on,  you're 23, right?"

"Yeah?"

Suddenly Chiyo interrupted.
