8: ʙᴇɢɪɴɴɪɴɢ ᴛᴏ ᴄʜᴀɴɢᴇ

GOOB'S POV~

"Honestly, Scraps, I'm sorry too! I was having a bad day..." I tried to apologize as my sister hugged me.

"I'm so happy you're okay... Let's never fight like that again, okay? I promise I'll take your wishes into consideration more from now on..." Said Scraps, wiping her tears.

I pointed towards Shrimpo who was sitting with us on the bench. He was looking away and seemed to not be listening.

"Oh, yeah... Thank you too, Shrimpo. Really! I mean... I didn't expect you to.." began Scraps.

"Yeah yeah, you're welcome. Next time, you'll be the one fetching your stupid brother from the darkest pits of hell." Said Shrimpo, in an annoyed tone.

"Heyyy.... I'm not stupid..." I said, one of my arms stretching behind Scraps and onto Shrimpo's shoulder.

I was surprised when Shrimpo slapped my hand away.

"Goob, don't act like what happened between us back there was anything more than... "

"Us becoming best buuuuds???!?" I asked jokingly, with a wide smile.

"No! Please, just... Leave me alone."

I was shocked to see Shrimpo change personalities so fast. Just yesterday he was all happy after we made it out alive and even willingly hugged me...

When i got up to follow Shrimpo when he left, my sister held one of my hands. Without saying a word, i turned around and looked at her. She sighed and let me go before i ran right back towards Shrimpo.

"Are you okay?" i asked, worried.

"No! I'm okay!" Said Shrimpo, placing his hands on his head.

"You don't look okay... Do you need to talk? Or a hug? Or anything?" I insisted, coming closer and matching my pace with his.

"Just leave me alone! I hate everyone and i want everyone as far... As far away from me!" Shouted Shrimpo, turning around angrily.

...did our experience from yesterday really not mean anything? The hugs? This is how Shrimpo usually acted but... He seemed to have changed. Now he's back to his usual self but... I liked that new, calmer Shrimpo. The one that hugged me, the one that saved my life.

"Why?" I asked, keeping my cool.

"Because I don't want... There doesn't have to be a reason! I just hate everyone, that's me!"  Said Shrimpo, seeming confused himself.

"What don't you want? It's okay, you can tell me! I know there's a reason... " I kneeled down to his height and tried to reach one of his hands, to which he backed away.

"I don't want this! Stop doing this... Psychoanalysis! Stop trying to get into my head! Get out!"

"I want to help you... It'd be only fair after you saved my life. There's no denying it was you who did that..."

SHRIMPO'S POV~

My mind was racing. Thousands of thoughts all at once, covering Goob's voice.
This is exactly what i was trying to avoid. I don't want people to get attached to me. I just end up hurting them and myself, every time. I hate Goob the most, because he seems to trust people so easily, to get attached to them...
One random act of kindness and he's already pretending we're friends!
I don't deserve love... I know it. I'm only worthy of hate, just like everyone else in Gardenview. I can't show anything but hate. To protect myself. To protect everyone. To protect Goob.

As i snapped out of my thoughts, i saw Goob approaching me with a worried expression. He suddenly spread his arms out... That's what triggered the trauma from my horrible nightmare.
I began hallucinating Twisted Goob in front of me, about to take my last heart. Leaving myself vulnerable just to get caught into a death grab.

"You're scared of me...?" Goob's voice echoed through my mind as my vision cleared.

He sounded hurt... Perhaps I've said too much. I saw him walk away, his head tilted down and his hands slowly dragging across the floor. A walk similar to his Twisted counterpart. Or perhaps i was hallucinating again?

"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!" I tried to shout, but my voice was weak. It was hard for me to apologize. It was too late, as Goob already left, and my voice echoed into the emptiness.
The one i was truly afraid of was me. I always hurt people when they get too close. I just let it happen again.
