My anger was returning. How could one of my closest friends decide to abandon me when I needed her the most? I twitched and twisted in frustration, desperately trying to get out of Leon's grasp.
He wasn't having it.
"León..." I warned him, gritting my teeth. "Let me go! I'm going to run after her. Right now. Just release me."
My temper had risen dramatically by the time León finally responded to my plea.
"No," he stated, a surprisingly stubborn look on his face.
"Excuse me? Leon, she could be anywhere by now!"
"No," he repeated, much to my annoyance.
He continued, "We're running after her. Let's go!"Fortunately, it only took me a split-second to recover from my shock. Grabbing our coats, León and I bolted for the door and ran as fast as our exhausted bodies would allow out of the building.
**********
I scanned the parking lot, squinting my eyes for a better look.
"Where to?" I asked my companion. He paused to think for a moment before replying.
"You really want to know?"
I nodded.
" I have no clue as to where we should go."
I sighed. This cannot be happening agai-
I stopped as I heard a crunching sound underneath my feet. I bent down on the ground to retrieve a small, crumpled piece of paper with an address written on it, in what looked like rushed and scribbly handwriting.
A handwriting I recognised."Take a look at this," I motioned for Leon to come forward and showed him the note.
"This is Natalia's handwriting." It must've fallen out of her bag.
"Are you sure?" He said, whilst examining the paper.
I gave a confident nod.
"A hundred and one percent sure. We used to hang out all the time. Of course I'm familiar with her handwriting," I replied, snatching the paper from his hands."I say... let's go there. She might have taken refuge over there. Maybe it's her house."
Leon seemed to like the idea.
He answered with "Sure, that seems like a good plan. But I wouldn't be surprised if it failed..." He droned on with pessimism.
I realised that needed to provide him with moral support if we were to continue our search."Look, I know our previous plans haven't exactly functioned properly. But, if we have a positive attitude, I'm sure we'll be able track her down. Besides, I feel it. Natalia is hiding there. Now, put a smile on that dashingly handsome face of yours and come with me instead of waisting your time here."
Leon blushed as I complimented him, and took my hand in his.
"Yeah. Let's find Naty."
**************
We both broke out into a run through the busy streets, ignoring people's curious looks. Leon was holding his phone in his hand. We had activated Google Maps in order to reach Natalia's address.
After running for 30 minutes non-stop, I started getting uncomfortable pains in my stomach and called out to Leon, asking him to stop.
He agreed and we sat down on a bench, him and I both clutching our stomachs in order to numb the pain.
"How much further?" I asked, panting heavily.
"About 2km," he answered.
I groaned loudly, earning a small chuckle from Leon.
"It's not that bad," he teased.
I violently shook my head at him.
"Oh yes," I said, "Yes it is."
He laughed once more before we stood up again and resumed our chase.
****************
An hour later, Leon and I arrived in the correct area of town. Now, all we needed to find was the correct avenue and the house number before we finally arrived at our destination.
We slowed our pace down a little, since we were getting closer to the address.
*********
The mid-afternoon heat had caught up with me, and I could now feel the sun marking my skin. I also realised that I was parched, as a result of all the exercise.
I turned to Leon."You don't happen to be carrying a bottle of water with you, I suppose?"
To my disappointment, Leon shook his head.
"Ugh. You have no idea how dry my throat is at the moment, Leon," I complained.
"Don't worry, we're almost there. We can buy some water on the way back," he replied, dismissing my complaint.
He had a point.
A few minutes later, we heard the voice of Google saying that 'We had reached our destination'.
The problem was that there was no 'destination'. In front of us was a completely deserted piece of land with long, yellow grass growing all over the place.
Leon asked me to check the address once more.
"You sure this is it?"
I reread the paper carefully and nodded, placing my hands on my hips and furrowing my eyebrows.
"Yeah, this is definitely the right place," I confirmed, feeling very confused...
