❛ remind me what we're looking for again? ❜"I MEAN, IT'S OBVIOUS, RIGHT?" Mackenzie sat in the front seat of the Twinkie, aimlessly listening to John B's rambling after their encounter at the Château. The Pogues had told her about their time whilst she was at the Wreck, dealing with less than optimal customers. Now, John B drove the Pogues through a narrow road, one that lead them directly to Redfield Lighthouse. "A family heirloom. What better place to hide a message? He had to know it would get back to us, right?"
Kie nodded. "Yeah, it's possible."
Pope shrugged as he played with the compass. "It could also be possible that you're concocting wild theories to help, you know, deal with your sad feels."
"Bro, you know how I process my sad feels. Dank nugs and the stickiest of ickies, that's how I do it."
Mack rolled her eyes. "We know, JJ. Believe me."
"I'm not concocting, okay? My dad is trying to give us a message," John B protested.
"If it helps you believe, John B."
"Look, I-I don't need a therapy session, okay? I'm not trippin' out."
"It's okay to trip, bro, but-"
"Look, my— my dad is missing, okay? Missing. You don't know what it's like to have the person closest to you vanish, and then have no idea what happened. Just wake up every morning wondering." The Pogues exchanged a glance.
Mackenzie bit her lip as she looked at him. She hadn't know exactly how he was feeling, but in some fucked up way, she could relate. One day her mother was with her, cradling her small ten-year-old body to her and playing in the yard and the next she was gone, leaving her and her brother to fend for themselves against their father's fury. I guess marriage isn't always for everyone.
"It's been almost a year." Kiara says lowly
"Hey, he could have been kidnapped. That's definitely a possibility." JJ speaks, attempting to bring some hope to his friend's fear.
"Yeah, could be in a Soviet sub getting interrogated by the KGB somewhere," Pope added.
"Absolutely, uh, or Atlantis."
"JJ," Kie warned. "Look, what do you think the message is?"
"Redfield. Redfield Lighthouse. My dad's favorite place." Mackenzie's head tilts slightly to see the sign blaze by the window.
A few moments later, the crew pulled up outside the lighthouse's fenced terrain. The Pogues piled out as they gazed up at it. John B cleared his throat, turning toward his friends. "Okay, here's what's gonna happen. You're gonna post up and look out for bogey's, okay?" He pointed at JJ.
