SASHA

I knocked and waited for a few minutes but there was no answer. I moved a bit to the side, peeking through the living room window but all I could see was darkness.

I pulled out my phone and glanced at the time, cursing as I noticed the hour. I had been so stupid to come here, he must still be in the office.

Of course, he wouldn't miss work, he was the CEO. I may have been out of the job due to our breakup but he wasn't, he just didn't have a PA anymore.

I sighed as I turned away from the door and called an Uber.

Half an hour later I was in the elevator, staring at the lights indicating the floor. I was fidgety, my hands shaking as I climbed up, one of my legs bouncing up and down as I thought about what I should say.

The thought that it may be too late, that he had already moved on kept flying through my mind making me sick to my stomach. No! No, I could not think like that. Stefan wasn't like that, he wouldn't do that to me.

Maybe he wouldn't, but it didn't mean that he would take me back. Maybe he had changed his mind or, realized that I was right and that he did still have feelings for my brother.

Arghhhh....

I had to stop! I was losing it.

And then the elevator dinged and I stared wide-eyed as the door opened.

I took a deep breath, squeezing my hands into fists in order to stop them from shaking as I exited the elevator.

The hubbub of the office immediately ceased, a dead silence falling over the entire floor as every eye in the cubicles looked around to stare at me.

Great... I'm the office pariah.

I paid them no mind, walking with my head held high through the office, ignoring the whispers that sprung up as soon as I walked by.

Let them talk, I thought as I approached Stefan's office, uncaring about them, the only thing occupying my mind at the moment, was the man who sat behind those doors.

I stopped once I reached them, my body trembling and my hands shaking once again as I stared at the wood. I took a deep breath, closing my eyes for a moment as I tried to calm my rapidly beating heart before I raised my hand and knocked.

"Enter." Came a muted response from the other side, the usual growl in Stefan's voice missing making me frown.

I paused for a second longer and then quickly opened the door and walked in, closing it behind me as soon as I did so.

I turned around, my eyes immediately falling on Stefan's tall form sat behind his desk.

I winced as I looked at him closer, my heart in pieces at the sorry sight his once perfect face made.

He was obviously tired, his eyes bloodshot with big purple bags beneath them. His once immaculate hair was in a mess, and his shirt crinkled. I had never seen him look so ruff, and I felt awful since it was all my fault.

He was staring at the computer screen, not realizing that it was me who had entered as he said in a monotone voice without looking up,

"What is it?"

"Did you mean it?"

His eyes were immediately on me, alert and awake in the way they were not just a moment before.

"Sasha." He whispered, his voice full of hope that broke my heart.

"Did you mean it?" I repeated the question.
