Comeback To Me

Chapter Six:

Third Person's Pov...

"I'm very sorry... We didn't mean to be so late! We had to pick up Chung-woo before coming to the hospital." Yeji said, walking towards the girls. Chung-woo ran to his mom and hugged her  to which he received no response. Yuna stood up and hugged her unnies.

"How is she?" Lia asked, and Yuna pointed at the doctor. Even so, Chaeryeong sat there empty, awaiting the devastating news. The more she waited, the worse her pain got. "Let's listen to the doctor." Yuna said as they all sat down together.

"Right, well, Ms. Shin barely made it through the surgery, and we are unsure if she'll make it through the night. The chances are less than 5%. Her heart is very damaged and fragile. She was placed in our intensive care unit. You may go see her, but we need you to take serious precautions." The doctor explained, Yuna and her unnies felt extreme relief, except for one person. Chaeryeong couldn't take in the information, and even if she did, what did it matter? Ryujin could still drop dead at any given moment.

"Mommy..." Chung-woo spoke, trying to get his mom's attention. Yet, no matter how she looked at him, she just couldn't respond. "Chung-woo, come here. Play with Jiji for a little. Your mommy's just a little bit shocked." Yeji said, and he nodded, going with his cousin to the little play area.

"So, can we go inside the room now?" Yuna asked, and the doctor nodded. "You guys should go. I'll stay here and take care of the kids." Yeji offered, but Lia knew something was wrong. Ryujin was Yeji's best friend. "I'll take them to the hospital's daycare. So we can all go together." Lia suggested, and Yeji walked along with her.

"Chaeryeong unnie." Yuna nudged her; a broken glance went her way, as empty as it could be. As hurt as eyes could ever express. Chaeryeong wouldn't move but simply stared down at her hands. "Unnie. This isn't your fault." Yuna looked at her with tears; she had to be blaming herself by now.

"It's not. You're right. It's not my fault, but still..." Chaeryeong stood up, "It still hurts." She glanced at Yuna once more; Lia and Yeji were already walking back. "Goodbye."

"Wait, Chaeryeong unnie." Yuna stopped her, her hand holding on to her arm. "She needs you."

Chaeryeong looked back and shook her head. It wasn't true, and she couldn't make herself believe it was. "Let go, Yuna." Chaeryeong demanded, but Yuna refused. She held onto Chaeryeong's arm tightly.

"Just go to her once, please, unnie. I'm begging you." Yuna got on her knees as tears dripped down her face onto Chaeryeong's arm. "Okay." She said she was picking her up from the ground. If anything happened, she thought it was the least she could do for Yuna.

The girls walked together towards Ryujin's room. They were allowed in the room after passing through an air disinfecting machine. The girls entered the room, and Yuna quickly rushed over to her sister's side. She looked so peaceful. Chaeryeong stood at the entrance; her mind was in a trance.

She couldn't think straight. Her world was falling apart for the millionth time. She felt nauseous, and her palms grew sweaty. "Hey," Yeji said, startling Chaeryeong. Her heart was racing as she looked over at Yeji. "Calm down, Ryeong. She's a fighter." Yeji reassured, and Chaeryeong was thankful; it was something she had already known. She knew what a fighter Ryujin was. The problem is that she didn't know how much she, herself, could fight.

"I know..." Chaeryeong muttered slowly. She took a step inside the room. She couldn't get rid of the hospital smell—the smell of medicine, bandages, weird oils, blood—and worst of all, there was this horrible stench of something raw. It was too much for Chaeryeong to handle. She knew she wasn't ready to see her.
