Ethan is trying the radio early this morning like he always does, when suddenly for the first time ever, there's a faint voice in reply. You both freeze in shock.
"Hello? Is anybody there?" You hear a voice more clearly through the static and you turn to Ethan with wide eyes.
"Yes! Yes, hello! I'm here. Who's this?" Ethan says and you run to sit beside him on the couch. The man gives a short explanation of who they are, basically being what's left of the government and military.
"What's your name? How many are you?"
"Ethan Stone. It's just me, my wife and our daughter." He answers as he takes your hand squeezing it.
"Alright, where are you? Are you at a safe location?"
"Well, it has been as safe as it can be for a while now, but recently we've observed some people, the ones that aren't affected like everyone else. We've been planning on getting out of here and somewhere new, but now.. Where are you?" Ethan asks him, intentionally not sharing your location yet.
The man talks about a safe place that's been there since the beginning and that there are many survivors there. He tells you where they are, giving your locations they start talking with Ethan about how to get there.
"..Oh, uh, hold on." The voice then says and you wait only a few seconds before someone speaks again.
You hear a new male voice on the radio. "Ethan?.. Ethan, is that you?"
Looking at Ethan, you see him frown, then freeze when the new person repeats his name and he recognises the voice, or at least think he does. You hear him mumble "Dad?' to himself and you whip your head to him in confusion.
"Ethan Stone? Son, is that really you?" The voice then say n your eyebrows fly up in shock.
"Dad?.. Edward Stone, is that you?" Ethan asks and his father recognises his son's voice.
"Ethan, yes! You're, you're alive!" You hear his father let out a loud sigh in relief, chuckling in disbelief and happiness.
"Dad. What, uh.. You, you've been there? How long have you.."
"We've been here since the beginning Ethan." His father tells him and you see Ethan's face slacks in shock and his eyes starts to water.
"We?" He asks, his voice barely audible.
"Yes Ethan, we're all here." He tells him and you see a tear run down Ethan's cheek. "Your mother and siblings."
Ethan let out a big exhale as he covers his mouth, you stroke his back and hug his side. You feel your own tears for him and his relief. And for getting some good news for the first time in a long time.
"How, uh..?" Ethan clears his throat.
"The government needed me so I was contacted early when the chaos started and they sent a helicopter for us. Most were at our house and the rest were close by, so everyone made it to the pick up.. but, we couldn't get a hold of you, the service was already down by then.. I tried, son, I promise I tried to make them get you but.."
"It's okay, Dad. I understand."
"Ethan!?"
You hear a new voice, his mother most likely having grabbed the radio from his father. They had went to let her know when Ethan's father confirmed his identity.
"Mom?" Ethan says, his voice almost cracking in relief of hearing his mother's voice.
You know he loves his family dearly. He has immense respect for his parents. He's their first born and they had him when they were very young. And being the eldest son he feels extremely protective of younger siblings. Their second child was born with a big from between Ethan, so he's been with them alone for a long time before they then had the rest of their children. He's watched his siblings grow and helped raise them in a way.
His parents love all their children equally, but they've always had a special bond with their first born. The beginning of his life was sometimes turbulent and he's been with them through it and been their rock. Ethan grew up to become an even better man than they could hope for. They couldn't be more proud of him. So when they never got in contact, they took it hard.
After finally leaving Greg's house, you went to check on his family. It took a long time to do so, as you were still figuring out how to travel and to stay safe from the insane people. Not seeing any bodies inside their houses was slightly relieving, but their bodies could've just been somewhere outside.
Ethan grew up with a very different home environment than you, and you're grateful for the love and care he's given you and your child. You were worried about not being able to give O what she deserves, because you didn't know how to be a happy family other than your relationship with your late sister. You and Ethan together have given her the best possible outcome she could get and you've never felt more loved and content. Though you still miss your sister.
"Oh, my son." Mary Stone sobs on the radio. "I thought.. Oh, we thought you.."
"I'm okay, Mom." He tells her.
"You can't imagine my relief, son."
Ethan glance at his daughter. "Actually, I can."
"Oh, yeah, did I hear them say you had, uh, a family now?" His father then asks and you can even hear his mother gasp in the background.
"Yeah." He answers with a smile, squeezing your thigh as he looks at you with so much love. "Yn, she's my.. I guess we're not technically married, so she's still my fiancé then." He tells his parents.
He fiddles with the wedding ring on your finger, which he found two years ago. Then he looks at O again.
"And our daughter, Olympia. She's named after the woman who gave birth and left her to Yn. We've had O since she was born, only a few months after it all started."
"Oh, my.. Ethan, are you coming here? Please tell me you're coming." His mother says and he chuckles.
"Yeah. That's the plan now. We're gonna try." He says and then you hear a new voice on the radio.
"And we're going to help. We'll make sure we get you and your family here safely, Mr. Stone. My name is Victor Harrison, I'm the acting president of what's left of America." He tells you and your eyebrows raise in shock. The President had went to get there when someone came and told him the news of more survivors on the radio.
"Wow, uh, thank you, Mr. President."
"It's the least I can do. Your family have been a tremendous help these past five years, I couldn't have kept this bunch together without the Stone family." He chuckles. "And there are not many survivors left out there, other than the ones that have gone insane. So we will do everything we can to get you here. I am close to your family on a personal level and have heard a lot about you. A former Captain of a great military special ops team. Ethan, I could use someone like you here." The president tells him.
The president and Ethan's parents give back the radio to the man that was making plans with him before and they make the arrangements. Ethan takes notes and goes over the map, while you prepare some food and listen intently even though he will make you go through everything many times over later.
"Daddy?" You hear your daughter and you turn to see her crawling out of her tent and walk over to Ethan. Ethan pulls her up on his lap and she listens to the people on radio with him.
You look at your family in admiration, the man you love and the child you're raising together. And now with a new hope and goal, for a safe haven and getting reunited with Ethan's family.
