 ZOE POV.

The twilight enveloped us as we sat on the balcony, the city lights beginning to twinkle in the distance. The evening air was cool and carried the delicate fragrance of jasmine from the garden below. I could feel the weight of the unspoken words between Veer and me. My resolve to confront our past was solidified; it was time to lay everything bare.I traced my fingers along the balcony railing, my thoughts swirling with memories and emotions. I had decided that we needed to talk about what had happened—about the distance that had driven a wedge between us and how we had ended up here, bound together by family expectations rather than our own choices.

"Do you remember the night before you left for Mumbai?" I finally asked, my voice breaking the silence that had settled over us. I tried to keep my tone steady, but the emotions were raw and unfiltered.

Veer turned his head, his eyes reflecting the last remnants of sunlight. "Yes, I remember it clearly," he said, his voice carrying a hint of nostalgia. "We were sitting on the balcony at your apartment, making plans for how we'd handle the separation. We were full of hope and optimism, convinced that our love would be strong enough to withstand the distance."I nodded slowly, feeling a lump form in my throat. "It was supposed to be a new beginning for us. We had so many dreams and promises, and we believed that love could overcome any obstacle. But reality was much harsher than we anticipated."

Veer leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees. "Long-distance relationships are harder than they seem. The calls, the texts—they started to feel more like obligations than the lifeline they were supposed to be. The physical distance quickly turned into an emotional divide."The breeze was gentle, rustling the leaves of the potted plants around us. I took a deep breath, my heart aching as I continued. "I remember how I tried to stay positive, to keep the hope alive. But the fear of losing you, of you being so far away, became overwhelming. I didn't know how to handle it, and I felt so alone."Veer reached out, his hand gently covering mine. The warmth of his touch was a stark contrast to the chill of my emotions. "I felt the same way," he admitted. "I focused on building a future, on establishing myself in Mumbai so that we could have a stable life together. But I neglected the emotional connection that we needed to sustain us through the distance."I squeezed his hand, a tear slipping down my cheek. "We both tried so hard, but we ended up losing each other. The calls that once brought us joy became routine, and the promises we made felt like they were slipping away. I felt like I was losing you, and it hurt so much."

**Flashback:**

The memory unfolded vividly in my mind, transporting me back to that warm summer evening. The balcony of my apartment was adorned with the soft glow of fairy lights, casting a magical ambiance over everything. The city below was a quiet expanse of lights, a beautiful yet distant reminder of the world we were about to be separated from.Veer and I had sat close together on a cushioned bench, the warmth of his body a comforting presence beside me. I had tried to keep my voice steady, but the lump in my throat was almost too much to bear. "I'm going to miss you so much," I whispered, looking into his eyes. My heart was heavy with the weight of impending separation.Veer had taken my hands in his, his gaze filled with a mixture of determination and tenderness. "I promise, Zoe, I'll call you every day. We'll stay connected, no matter how far apart we are. Our love will keep us close, even if the distance tries to pull us apart."His words, spoken with such conviction, had given me a glimmer of hope. We shared a long, lingering kiss, trying to savor the last moments of closeness before the separation. The night was filled with whispered promises and dreams of a future we hoped to build together, despite the uncertainty that lay ahead.

**End Flashback.**

I turned back to Veer, my voice steadier now as I spoke. "Those promises meant everything to me. We swore that distance wouldn't matter, that our love would see us through. But as time passed, keeping those promises became harder. The reality of our separation started to erode the connection we once had."

Veer's gaze softened with understanding and regret. "I should have been more aware of how the distance was affecting us. My focus on my career and the demands of a new city overshadowed our relationship. I didn't understand the toll it was taking until it was too late."I took another deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment. "We were both overwhelmed, and we didn't have the tools to handle such a situation. We drifted apart, and now, sitting here, I realize that we need to address our past to understand how we ended up here."Veer reached up and gently brushed a strand of hair from my face, his touch both familiar and comforting. "I want us to learn from our past. To understand where we went wrong and find a way to move forward. We have the chance to build something new, even if it means confronting our old wounds."

I nodded, feeling a sense of resolve. "It won't be easy. We have a lot to work through, but we owe it to ourselves to try. To be honest with each other and rebuild our connection. We need to learn from our mistakes and find a way to make things right."

Veer looked at me with a mixture of hope and apprehension. "I'm willing to do whatever it takes, Zoe. I want us to have a future where we understand each other better and where we can build something lasting and meaningful."

We sat there in the soft glow of the evening, our hands intertwined. The shared understanding between us felt like a fragile thread, but it was a start. The night deepened around us, and with it came a sense of renewed possibility. Though we knew the road ahead would be fraught with challenges, the shared commitment to working through our issues gave us hope.As the city lights twinkled below, I realized that we were on the cusp of something new. It wouldn't be easy, and there would be obstacles to overcome, but for the first time in a long while, it felt like we were moving towards a future that we could shape together. The past was still there, lingering in the shadows, but the promise of a new beginning was shining through.
