Ambush

Avi set down her bag and knelt down near the makeshift grave. She let out a shaky breath. She never thought she'd be back here after that day. The day of the funeral.

"You were an idiot.. you jumped into a damn horde and got yourself killed, and I can't let go of that guilt... You were reckless, stupid, an absolute dumbass-" She stopped and put a hand on her forehead as she started tearing up. "No matter how many times I told you not to, you did it anyway like a fucking moron-" She looked away for a second to gather herself and she let out a shaky breath. "But you were my best friend... So why..? Why did you have to be the one to leave?" She choked out and stepped away to gather her bearings.

That day had been hard on all of them. Bella could barely talk about Danny without sobbing, max and Issac never spoke about him, trixy would visit the grave on a daily. And Avi? Well, she'd mostly try to keep herself together long enough to keep everyone else alive.

Trixy put a hand on her shoulder and looked up at her, her own eyes watering as she embraced her girlfriend.

"It's gonna be ok baby..." Trixy whispered and held her, rocking her back and forth.

Avi choked out a couple sobs, but that was all she could manage right now. She pulled away from trixy and heard a soft moan from the trees.

"Ambush..!" She said hastily and pulled out her gun as a few zombies charged them. One of them sunk its teeth into trixy's neck, and she cried out as she kicked it off, stabbing it in the head.

"Trix! You ok?!"

"I'm good, it's not deep!"

"We gotta go, now! Come on!" Avi shouted as she grabbed her wrist and started running, shooting what she could.

Even if they were immune to the bite, they could still be ripped to shreds. They raced through the trees and trixy stopped her, dragging her into a nearby cave where they pushed against the wall, watching as the zombies sped past them. Avi tried to catch her breath, her heart beating in her chest as the adrenaline rush kicked in. She slowly pulled out her radio and sighed in relief.

"Heads up, zombie horde to the east of the camp. We just got ambushed, and trix is gonna need to be bandaged up."

"I'm on it, just try to get back safe." Bella spoke up just before the batteries in avi's radio died.

"Damnit... Come on Trix, let's go."
