Brittany woke up to the sensation of warmth pressed against her side, the gentle rise and fall of another body breathing softly in the quiet morning. Her heart skipped a beat as she looked down to see Santana curled up against her, dark hair splayed out on the pillow, her face peaceful in sleep. For a moment, Brittany just stared, her mind trying to catch up to the reality of the situation.
But then, like a wave crashing over her, panic set in. "Oh my god," Brittany muttered under her breath, her voice barely a whisper as she carefully pulled herself away from Santana's embrace. Her movements were quick and frantic, her heart pounding in her chest. She scrambled out of bed, grabbing her clothes from where they had been discarded the night before and pulling them on with trembling hands.
She needed to get out, to think, to breathe. Brittany snatched up her phone from the nightstand and, without a backward glance, rushed out of the room, her footsteps almost silent on the wooden floors. As she slipped out of the front door, the cool morning air hit her, but it did little to calm her racing thoughts.
Brittany looked around, expecting to see the car that had brought them there, but the driveway was empty. She let out a frustrated groan, pulling out her phone to order an Uber. The seconds felt like hours as she waited for a confirmation, her fingers tapping nervously against the screen.
Back in the house, Santana stirred, grumbling tiredly as she reached out to grasp the sheets in front of her, seeking the warmth she had felt just moments before. When her hand met only empty space, something clicked in her still-sleepy brain, and she quickly sat up, blinking away the remnants of sleep as she surveyed the room.
The bed beside her was empty, the space where Brittany had been now cold and untouched. Santana's eyes darted around, searching for any sign of the blonde, but Brittany's clothes and phone were gone too, leaving no trace that she had been there at all.
"Brittany?" Santana called out, her voice hesitant, tinged with a mix of confusion and growing anxiety. She waited, straining to hear any response, but the only sound that met her ears was the quiet hum of the house settling.
The silence felt suffocating. Santana wrapped the duvet around herself, feeling a sudden chill as she stepped out of the room. She called Brittany's name again, louder this time, as she moved through the house, checking each room, her heart sinking with every unanswered call.
When she reached the front door, slightly ajar, the realization hit her. Brittany was gone. Santana stood there, the duvet clutched tightly around her, as the morning sunlight streamed in, harsh and unforgiving.
Damien was jolted awake by the sound of frantic banging on his door. The noise was loud and insistent, pulling him from the depths of sleep with a start. Groaning, he covered his ears, trying to block out the noise as he stumbled out of bed, his mind still foggy. As he reached the door, he hesitated for just a moment before pulling it open.
No sooner had he done so than a figure pushed past him, forcing him to step back as the door slammed shut with a sharp thud. Damien blinked in surprise, his grogginess fading as he took in the sight of Brittany standing in his room, her chest rising and falling rapidly as she tried to catch her breath.
He laughed lightly, trying to shake off his confusion. "Why are you here? You have your own house now," he teased, his voice still thick with sleep.
But Brittany didn't smile. Instead, she began pacing the room, her movements quick and restless. Damien's amusement faded as he watched her, his concern growing with each passing second.
"I had sex with Santana," Brittany blurted out suddenly, her voice trembling.
Damien's laughter died in his throat, his expression shifting from confusion to shock. "What?" he asked, his voice almost a whisper.
