"We might have to cut today short," Edgeshot said as your arms gave in, sending you onto the mat with a loud groan. Every limb of yours was as strong as jelly, and the soreness from the hellish routine never seemed to go away. You got a day for rest throughout the week, and it definitely wasn't enough to make up for six days of torture.
The relief of face-planting into the mat was short-lived, and you tilted your head back to look at Edgeshot, "Why?"
"Number one has called in a meeting with the top 10."
"Sounds serious," you remarked as you sat up, every bone in your body protesting at the movement, "What is it about?"
"Not going to tell you," he mused before he made a gesture with his hand for you to get back into the plank position.
"You suck, you know?" you groaned as you shifted your feet behind you and propped yourself back onto your elbows. Every muscle protested at the additional strain, but you were much too stubborn to give in to it.
"Three minutes," he said, which made your head whip up to look at him.
"Traitor."
"If you still have the energy to talk, I'm not doing my job well enough."
At the end of the day, Edgeshot did his job too well. As you sat in the lobby of the agency, waiting for the appropriate time to head outside to wait for the bus – your legs trembled with exhaustion. Your shoulders and arms ached to the pointit was a hassle to hold your phone.
Despite your weariness, you couldn't stop thinking about the secrecy regarding the meeting Edgeshot had been called to. He had already left to prepare for the meeting, and considering how he had dragged along Mount Lady and Kamui Woods – something must be going on.
The sound of the lobby doors sliding open made you look up from your phone, where Bakugo had been loudly complaining over texts that Endeavor had cut their day short too. Cut the rest of their internship short. As your gaze drifted to the door, you locked eyes with Endeavor. His eyebrows raised, almost surprised that you were still present considering how everyone had been sent home.
In all honesty, you didn't know how to react to Endeavor's presence. Even though he had taken you in defense in front of the reporters a week ago, you didn't like him. You could be civil for Shoto's sake. Not that you wanted to, but knocking Endeavor down a few pegs wasn't your job – even though you would have loved to do it.
"How is the internship going?"
The sound of his voice made you arch a brow. The way he so casually broke the silence after probably fifteen seconds of just staring at one another didn't sit right with you. Endeavor always wore a mask, sometimes it slipped up when he was angry – but even though he was trying, you could feel the disdain whenever he was around you. It was obvious to anyone who dared look close enough, that Endeavor fucking resented you.
"As long as the reporters don't talk to me, it's fine," you responded after a moment of silence.
"Are they still giving you trouble?"
"A little less," you met his gaze, a placid smile forming on your lips, "Guess I have to thank the number one hero for that."
He scoffed at the acidic undertone in your words, "You don't have to thank me."
Good, because I'm not going to. "Whatever you say."
The silence grew thick. Uncomfortably thick. From the corner of your eye, you could see the bus you were supposed to take drive past the building, but it didn't fully register in the back of your mind. You were much too focused on the fact that Endeavor looked like he was choking back words he shouldn't say. It was probably wrong that you wanted to hear them.
