James paced nervously in the dimly lit room, his heart pounding in his chest. He had been thinking about this moment for days, rehearsing what he wanted to say. Finally, he gathered the courage and turned to face Regulus, who sat quietly on the edge of the bed, lost in thought.
"Regulus, I need to talk to you," James began, his voice trembling slightly. "I... I can't keep this to myself any longer. I've been so worried about you lately. I don't want to lose you."
Regulus looked up, his eyes wide with surprise. "James, what do you mean?"
James took a deep breath, stepping closer. "I mean, I've been having these feelings... for you. And it's not just about being friends. It's more than that. I care about you so much, and the thought of something happening to you terrifies me."
Regulus's eyes filled with tears, and for the first time, he allowed himself to be vulnerable in front of someone else. "James, I... I don't know what to say. I've been feeling the same way. I've had a crush on you for a while now, but I was too scared to admit it."
James felt a wave of relief and joy wash over him. He reached out and gently took Regulus's hand. "You don't have to be alone anymore. We're in this together."
Regulus couldn't hold back his emotions any longer. He started to cry, tears streaming down his face. James pulled him into a comforting embrace, holding him tightly. "It's okay, Reg. I'm here for you."
As they held each other, the weight of their unspoken feelings lifted, replaced by a sense of hope and connection. In that moment, they both realized that their bond was stronger than ever, and together, they could face whatever challenges lay ahead. Regulus couldn't comprehend how he went from hating James to now confessing his feelings.
