"BRAVO! Pentious at this rate, you'll get redeemed in no time!" Charlie proclaimed, giving Pentious a standing ovation. Pentious slithered over in the sailor suit that Charlie rapidly crafted for the skit that she made just as fast.
Angel stood off to the side in a trench coat that looked like Charlie had picked it up off the side of the road. "I'm going to bed," he grumbled, taking off his costume and throwing it on the floor in the hallway.
Everyone else also headed to bed except you. You trudged over to Angel's door, the sounds of screams trickled through the cracks of the doorway. You knocked, "Hey Angel, I just wanted to check on you."
"I'm fine, Doll face." You could barely hear his voice.
"Are you sure? I heard some yelling."
"I'm fine. Don't you need to help Pentious with moving in or something?"
"I'm going to help him tomorrow. First, I wanna check on you."
Footsteps could heard, and the door opened, the smell of alcohol leaking out of the room. He leaned against the door, both sets of his arms crossed. "(Y/n), I'm fucking fine." His eyes were squinted, and his gold tooth poked out of his grim expression.
"Alright. If you need to talk, I'm here." He closed the door in your face. Your steps echoed through the halls as you grabbed the costume lying on the floor. You traveled down to the first floor.
You reached the main staircase into the lobby and saw Pentious in the lobby. His eyes scanned the room, as he held something in his hand. You crept up behind him while his eyes scanned over the bar. He didn't even notice you as you walked up behind him and tapped his shoulder.
He let out a high-pitched scream, falling to the ground and jamming himself between bar stools. He shoved whatever was in his hand into his pocket and yelled, "I'm not doing anything!" He looked past his hat to see you, and all his muscles relaxed. "Oh, hello (Y/n). I didn't see you coming over here."
"Apologies, I didn't mean to frighten you."
"You didn't scare me. I..." He started off briefly, the cogs in his mind working overtime. "I was just making sure the bar stools are secure. Good souls have to make sure their friends won't get hurt."
"Yeah... So that thing you shoved in your pocket must be a screwdriver then."
"Yesss." He looked up at the seats briefly before returning to his feet/tail. "Now... I must be off." He zoomed out of the room and into one of the side hallways.
You shrugged and continued to the washing machines. Like clockwork, you filled up and started the machine while your mind wandered elsewhere. You knew that Angel was upset because of what Charlie said. But you can't help him. Maybe you could try to talk with her? You can at least try.
You dragged your phone out and texted her to meet you downstairs. Thankfully, you weren't waiting long as Charlie and Vaggie entered the laundry room. Both were in their nightwear, their hair was a tangled mess. "What's up (Y/n)?" Charlie yawned.
"I'm happy you're being so kind to our new guest, but kind of you're hurting Angel's feelings, " you said, leaning against the machine.
Both girl's head tipped over to the side. You signed, "You're acting like Angel isn't here anymore. And making it seems like he cares less than Pentious, but I know he's trying."
"If he really cared, then he could put in as much effort as Pentious." Vaggie retorted.
"Just because it looks like he doesn't care doesn't mean-."
"(Y/n)," Charlie said. "Angel is only here for a free room. So, I'm going to put my effort into Pentious and show everyone that this project will work. Maybe after that, Angel will start caring more."
