As the battle raged on around them, Annabeth approached Percy in a cavern.

"I have a plan" she said "but you're not going to like it"

Annabeth explained the plan to him, and she was right. He hated the plan.

"You can't do it, you'll die!" he told her

"I know Percy," she said sternly "but I have to. Thanatos told me himself."

He started walking out of the cavern when he heard Porphyrion's heavy footsteps outside. Percy ran, grabbed Annabeth's hand, and ducked behind a rock. Porphyrion walked into the cavern with another giant - about thirty feet tall.

"What are we going to do about the demigods?" says the giant in a gruff voice.

"There is no chance that they will survive us." Porphyrion said "We are too strong. We will wake Gaia and rule the world!"

The giants left the cavern with heavy footsteps. Percy and Annabeth ran back out to their friends - Jason and Piper who were battling a pair of Laistrygonians. Percy saw Annabeth pull out her drakon bone sword and try to cut one of the Laistrygonians leg. The giant whacked her aside and started attacking Jason again.

"Annabeth!" yelled Percy.

"I'm okay... I think..." she replied while getting up.

She had a nasty cut on her cheek. Percy ran over to her and helped her get up. He tended to the wound on her cheek and made sure not to get any blood on the floor.

"A little help over here...?" said Hazel who was battling a giant, at least thirty feet tall.

Frank ran over to her and helped her push him back while Piper and Jason had finished slaying the Laistrygonians. Percy started to sit down but just as he did, Porphyrion came and picked him up in his huge hand.

"Percy Jackson..." he growled "I've got you at last!"

"Hey dummy!" shouted Annabeth "Down here!"

Why was Annabeth drawing attention to herself? He didn't know -but he sure did want to get out of the giant's hand. Porphyrion squeezed him tighter. He saw Annabeth stab him in his leg which made him roar in pain and drop Percy. He smashed against the rocks and cut his head on a column. Blood dripped off his head and onto the ground. Oh no, he thought. This is not good. He spotted a broken piece of glass and walked over to look at his reflection. A cut about the size of his pinky finger was dripping blood from his forehead.

"Run, Percy!" yelled Annabeth while running from Porphyrion.

"Haha! We only need blood from one more demigod to awaken Gaia!" Porphyrion said

Percy pulled out his sword and uncapped it. He charged towards Porphyrion and stabbed him in the gut. Porphyrion started to disintegrate. Before he did, he threw a sword from his hair... And time slowed down. The sword span in the air... and landed in Piper's back. She fell face forward into the rubble.

"No!" screamed Jason as he ran towards Piper.

All six of them ran towards her and Percy enclosed them in a wall of water.

"Pipes?" said Jason with tears in his eyes. Jason turned her over. Her blood seeped onto the stones. The ground turned a harsh, dark red.
Piper's eyes were a million miles away.

"Jason. I love you..." she said with her last breath.

Percy took a shaky breath and made the water drop. All the giants, telekhines and monsters surged forward.

"Get ready..." said Hazel shakily.

The ground rumbled and cracked. Gaia was waking. Thanatos the death god flew out of a giant crack in the ground.
"The only way to defeat the goddess is to make another sacrifice to me. It will give me the power to destroy Gaia." he said.

"What does that mean?" asked Hazel

"Unfortunately," said Annabeth "I know..."

She explained the plan to Percy and everyone else and - of course - nobody liked it. Nobody was speaking because they were in shock from Piper's death and from Annabeth's plan. A giant spotted them and ran to come attack them, but Jason summoned a gust of wind which carried the giant into the air and dropped it from a height. None of the other monsters tried to attack them. Probably because they were too scared since the demigods were full of sadness and anger.

"Annabeth has to do this" said Hazel "it will save the world"

"Yes, but- but she'll die" Percy said

"Can we please stop talking about me now?!" yelled Annabeth.

Everyone fell silent again from her command. Percy walked back over to Piper's body and knelt down. The others followed and knelt down as well. They all said a prayer to Piper's mother, Aphrodite and then left. All the monsters were gathered around the spot where Gaia was rising. They were all chanting something to fully resurrect Gaia.

"We have to let her rise before I can do anything." said Annabeth

The six of them hid behind a big stone and hugged Annabeth. Percy still didn't agree with the plan. Tears were streaming down everyone's faces while Gaia was rising. They were all scared, tired, and angry. A telekhine turned its head to where he was and spotted him. Its eyes widened as it spotted them, and it started to run towards the rock. A few other monsters saw and started running towards them as well. Percy battled with the telekhine while Jason Leo and Hazel battled a young giant about ten feet tall. Frank joined Percy in battling the telekhine when they heard a shout. Percy glanced over and saw Jason with a huge cut on his face. He slashed the telekhines arm and it began to disintegrate. They both ran over to Jason and killed the giant.

"Jason are you alright?" asked Percy

"Yeah, I'm fine" he replied shakily

The ground shook violently and Gaia rose up from the earth. Annabeth sprinted over to Percy and held his hand. All six of them walked on to where Thanatos rose from the crack. The god had disappeared.
