Lucifer twisted the golden wedding ring between his pale fingers as he stared down at the black cursive letters on his wrist as if he could burn them right off his skin if he stared hard enough. 'Pleasure to be meeting you'. He could still remember the way his heart had skipped a beat when he first heard those words. How they rolled off her tongue so elegantly, entering his ears like music. So why did the song have to end. Since he was a boy he had begged to hear those words. Greeting everyone he could in hopes someone would say it. Whilst everyone else dreamed of their perfect career or a big house, Lucifer dreamed of finding his soulmate. He wanted nothing more in life than to find his soulmate, his other half. Why did she have to lie?...

He could still remember walking through the park mid summer. Kids playing, couples sat on benches cuddling. Bright blue sky illuminating the green fields below, flowers in full bloom. The fresh smell of nature hitting his nostrils, his mind calm for once. He was too busy watching the ducks in the glimmering pond to be looking where he was going and before he knew it he had walked straight into a taller woman. When he looked up ready to apologise to he gasped seeing her beauty. She had long golden hair that was shoved up into a low bun and a large sun hat shading her face. Her green eyes reflected the sunlight making them sparkle. She was truly stunning.

"H-hi" he stuttered out, taken back by her beauty.

She giggled in response, like heaven to his ears.

"I-im Lucifer"

"Pleasure to be meeting you, I'm Lilith" she smiled softly down at him just making him melt.

"Im so sorry for walking into you, i wasnt looking-"

"Well maybe you can buy me a drink to make up for it" she held out her arm which he gladly took.

And there it was. The lie. The very words that were meant to complete him but instead ripped him apart. They went for a drink, started meeting up, she told him the words on her wrist said "hi i'm Lucifer" but they didn't. She also had large bracelets on her wrist which she insisted on always wearing because they were 'sentimental' so her wrist was never visible but he never thought differently. He trusted her and her words... how could he be so wrong? Their relationship grew into a marriage and soon after doing so along came their daughter. His pride and joy. His reason for living.

When Charlotte was 10 years old, she had walked in on her mother screwing another guy, she immediately called Lucifer extremely alarmed by the guy 'hurting' her mother. She was 10 she didn't know any better. At first he was angry she cheated, then the heartbreak hit only to find out this so called 'Adam' was her real soulmate and that she lied, then he was just depressed and alone. She won custody of Charlie and he was allowed to see her once a week for a day. It was the only thing that kept him going. As soon as she hit 18 she moved back in with him but now that she's 21 she lives with her girlfriend Vaggie. They're soulmates and the sweetest couple. She has her own life and her friends and he couldn't be happier for her but now he was alone again... those damned words cursing him. Who even talks like that?

Alastor payed no attention to the black words on his tanned wrist. Never had and never will. Besides who on earth would say "are you the bellhop?" It made no sense. He didn't believe in soulmates and he had no intention of finding his. When he was 25 he met his platonic soulmate, Rosie. His best friend through it all. They laughed together, killed her abusive husband together, and now they ran a restaurant and bar together. She ran the restaurant at the front, primarily steaks, but the best in the state. It was high class and always fully booked. And behind the restaurant was the bar. That was Alastor's pride and joy. They served high end cocktails and spirits. There were performances throughout the night, live music constantly playing. And it was hard to get into. It was perfect. Their business was very successful and it was a great front for his full time job. He never felt the need to know his soulmate or even find them. He was more than happy with it just being him, his business and his apartment. He was happy. He was content.
Rosies so called soulmate abused the hell out of her, so Alastor really didn't believe in it, and nowadays... who did? Less and less people were starting to actively find their soulmates, most were just dating whoever it was they fell in love with, as fate can be cruel.
