The Night Raven College entrance ceremony had just concluded, and students began to disperse, heading toward their respective dorms. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation and excitement. Y/N, however, was less interested in the pomp and circumstance of her new environment and more focused on finding a place to rest. Exhaustion still clung to her like a second skin.

She had barely taken in her surroundings when a red-headed boy with an air of authority stepped forward. “We’re done with orientation and dorm assignments? All right, new students—let me be clear. At Heartslabyul House, I am the law. Break the rules, and it’s off with your head!” His voice was sharp, and his gaze was intense, making it clear he meant business.

Nearby, a boy with lion ears yawned widely, stretching his arms with a bored expression. “Yawn Well, that ceremony was as boring as ever. I’m going back to the dorm. If you’re in Savanaclaw House, follow me,” he announced, turning to leave with an air of nonchalance.

A boy with glasses and a calm demeanor stepped up next, his voice smooth and welcoming. “New students! Allow me to be the first to congratulate you on your achievement. As dorm leader of Octavinelle House, I am honored to have the opportunity to support you in what I hope will be a fulfilling campus experience.”

Amidst the chatter, a handsome boy with an air of elegance spoke up, looking around curiously. “Hey, does anyone know where the headmage went? He disappeared midway through the ceremony...”

“Some headmage he is,” came a voice from a tablet, dripping with disdain.

“Maybe he had a tummyache?” a boy with red eyes suggested, his tone light-hearted.

The headmage, Dire Crowley, finally made his reappearance, looking slightly flustered. “I most certainly did not!” he retorted, his cheeks reddening in indignation.

“Oh, speak of the bastard,” the red-headed boy muttered, clearly bemused.

Crowley turned his attention to Y/N, who was still standing awkwardly near the Mirror Chamber. “If you must know, I was searching for the new student who'd failed to show for orientation. You are the only one who has yet to be assigned a dorm. Step up to the Dark Mirror, and be quick about it. I’ll watch your weasel.”

Grim, still perturbed by the events, growled angrily. “Grrrrr!”

Y/N’s brain was too foggy to process much of what was happening. She barely registered the imposing presence of the Dark Mirror in front of her. With a weary sigh, she approached it, her eyes barely open.

“State your name,” the Dark Mirror intoned in a deep, echoing voice.

“I’m Y/N ...” Y/N managed to mumble, her voice barely above a whisper.

“  Y/N ... The nature of your soul is...”

The mirror paused dramatically, and then the voice continued, “...unclear to me.”

Crowley’s eyes widened in alarm. “What did you just say?”

“I sense no magical power from this one. Soundless. Colorless. Shapeless. Utterly vacant. Therefore, no dorm would be appropriate,” the Dark Mirror declared.

Crowley’s face turned pale. “Are you suggesting that the black carriage went to receive a person who cannot even use magic? But that is absurd! The student selection process has not erred once in its century of existence! How could this have happened?”

“Mmmph! Nnnrgggh... GASP!” Grim struggled against his bindings, clearly excited. “ME! Let ME have this student’s seat!”

“Not so fast, you hyperactive weasel!” Crowley barked, his frustration mounting.
