Azul's voice echoed through the room as he stepped up to the vault, a calculating smile on his face. "Now, then..." His fingers moved deftly, and with a soft ka-click, the vault door creaked open. The golden shimmer of dozens of contracts spilled out, each representing a deal he'd struck with students across campus.

Deuce squinted, his voice tense. "Hey... Those are the contracts we signed!"

Ace clenched his fists, muttering in disbelief. "So he's been keeping 'em in the vault after all."

Unaware of their presence, Azul began to count the contracts with a smirk, his gloved fingers delicately flipping through the documents. Grim, watching from their hiding spot, hissed in irritation. "He's counting those contracts like they're a wad of bills! Look at that smirk on his face."

Jack's ears flattened in distaste. "What a twisted pastime..."

But you tilted your head, watching Azul with a half-smile. "He looks cute to me. Not as cute as Deuce, but-"

Deuce flushed, momentarily caught off guard. "Aww, I love you too."

Ace scowled, rolling his eyes. "If you two kiss, you won't sleep well tonight."

Azul's voice broke their moment as he sighed contentedly, his work complete. "Ahhh. That's that. I'd better be getting back now." With a final click and creak, he secured the vault, leaving the room and the contracts behind him.

The group collectively let out a sigh of relief.

Grim wiped his brow. "We were THIS close to gettin' noticed."

But Jack's keen eye spotted something Azul had missed. "Wait, look! He left a contract out on the table."

Ace's eyes widened. "For real?! Lucky us! Let's swipe it and see if we can tear it up."

Grim padded over, his claws flexing eagerly. "Who knew Azul was so sloppy with his stuff? Let's see what we got here..."

BZZZZZT

The entire group screamed as a shock surged through their bodies.

"AGHAGHAGHAGHAGH!!!"

Deuce sputtered, "PBBTABABABABA!"

Grim's fur stood on end as he screeched. "MRAAAH! My whole body's paralyzed!"

You strained, the shock still coursing through your muscles. "C-c-c-can't... moove... Damn, I thought this would only happen if I—"

A shadow appeared, and Jade's voice slid over them like a smirk. "Well, well."

Floyd doubled over with laughter, clutching his sides. "Bwaaa ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!"

Azul stepped forward, smiling with a mix of amusement and satisfaction. "Dear me. You're all twitching like you got attacked by an electric catfish. You look positively silly."

Still struggling to move, you mustered a weak smile. "Hey, babe—"

Azul cut you off, not missing a beat. "Not a chance."

Jack gritted his teeth, finally regaining some movement. "You were onto us the whole time?!"

Azul's smile was sharp. "Of course I was. Your fluffy tail was perfectly visible under the desk. It would appear you were trying to steal the contracts... Unfortunately for you, they're rigged to jolt anyone who touches them aside from myself."

Ace groaned, realizing the truth. "So the whole thing was a setup?!"

Azul adjusted his glasses, his tone smug. "I told you that my contracts are completely unbreakable."

Floyd was still howling with laughter. "Aha ha ha! What a bunch of schmucks! Why would you even try when you know how this is gonna go?"

Jade smirked, his voice dripping with condescension. "Floyd, don't laugh at the poor things. That's just mean. They're wracking their little peabrains. This is simply the best they could come up with. Heh heh heh."

Azul's gaze darkened, his voice firm. "Trying to steal someone else's valuables merits a proper punishment, wouldn't you say?"

Jade nodded, his eyes glinting. "Indeed. They need to be taught a firm lesson so that they never think of doing it again."

Floyd cracked his knuckles, his grin stretching wide. "I'm gonna squeeze you all, ooone byyy ooone."

Jack's hackles raised, his stance defensive as he barked a warning. "Rgh... Watch out, guys! Incoming!"

Jack was panting heavily, hands on his knees. "Huff, huff... Argh... I never knew housewardens were this powerful!"

You chuckled lazily, leaning against the wall. "Baby, you have no idea... I'd beat their asses, but... I'm too tired."

Ace shot you an incredulous look. "What?!"

Azul adjusted his glasses, his gaze cold. "Let that be a lesson to you. NEVER try to steal my contracts again."

Floyd smirked, his tone mocking. "Shouldn't you guys be hustling over to the Atlantica Memorial Museum?"

Jade added with a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "Your deadline is sunset tomorrow. The clock is ticking, you know."

Floyd cracked his knuckles menacingly. "Then again, after we're done workin' you over, you'll be spending the rest of that time passed out in the nurse's office!"

Deuce stepped back, panic in his eyes. "They're about to attack again!"

Ace gripped his magical pen tightly. "Crud! Summoning magic ain't my strongest suit, but... I summon thee, cauldron!"

Deuce glared at him. "Hey! Don't crib my magic!"

Floyd shook his head, laughing. "Didn't we go over this yesterday? You'll never touch me with that! Bind the Heart!"

Azul's eyes widened in alarm. "Floyd! Watch where you're directing that spell! You've aimed right for the vault, you fool!"

Floyd shrugged casually. "Whoopsie-daisy. Sorry about that."

Azul rushed over to inspect the vault, breathing a sigh of relief as he muttered to himself. "No... The door's damaged! The dial and hinges aren't shot, are they?! Phew. Okay, good."

Azul turned to Floyd, clearly exasperated. "How many times have I told you not to use your signature spell so carelessly?! What will it take to get it through your head?!"

Floyd pouted, rolling his eyes. "I said I was sorry, okay? You don't gotta get all bent outta shape over one little ding."

Azul crossed his arms. "You'd have me save my protestations for when it's completely demolished, then?!"

Jade stepped between them, his voice calm but firm. "Okay, you two, settle down. Otherwise..." He trailed off, noticing that their prey was slowly inching toward the door. "...they'll get away."

Azul and Jade whipped around. "Huh?"

Grim seized the moment, calling out triumphantly. "Now's our chance! So long, suckers!"

Azul's expression shifted from irritation to panic. "Hey, wait! Jade! Floyd! After them!"

Floyd sighed, hands in his pockets. "Gettin' yelled at kinda harshed my vibe."

Azul threw his hands up in exasperation. "Is that really relevant right now? How can you let moods dictate your behavior so much?!"

Floyd shrugged, not looking concerned. "What about you, Azul? What're you gettin' all snappy for? So what if the vault gets busted? The contract scrolls are unbreakable, right?"

Azul groaned, rubbing his temples. "Do you expect me to walk around carrying a whole bundle of contracts everywhere I go?!"

Jade watched the two with an amused glint in his eye. "Sigh. Here we go again."

Floyd stretched, yawning widely. "Man, this stinks. I think I'm gonna cut class this afternoon and catch a nap somewhere."

Jade gave a resigned sigh, glancing at his brother. "Here we go again..."
