It was a chilly morning in the Ramshackle Dorm, and the spirits who roamed its halls had already gathered around Y/N. The flickering light from the windows cast eerie shadows, giving the place its usual ghostly charm.

"Hey, Y/N. Why so bleary-eyed?" one of the ghosts asked with a mischievous grin.

"You look like you've seen a ghost. Heh heh heh," another chimed in.

Y/N rolled her eyes. "Hardi har."

"Today's the last day of the fall semester. Look sharp and don't bungle the landing," the first ghost reminded her, floating lazily through the hallway.

"Yeah, tomorrow’s the first day of the winter holiday," the second ghost continued. "Have you two decided what you’ll be doing?"

Grim, always the curious one, tilted his head. "Huh? What’s a win-ter holly-day?"

The ghosts exchanged glances, before one explained, "It’s when school lets out for the season. Most students go home to celebrate the new year with their families. They have fancy dinners, too."

Grim’s ears perked up. "Wait, there’s FOOD?!"

One of the ghosts chuckled. "Oh yeah. Roast turkey, pie, a ham as big as your head, you name it... Not that we ghosts can eat, of course."

Another ghost added, with a wistful tone, "Some ghosts head home to the netherworld to spend holidays with their families too, y'know."

"And some of 'em never come back!" the third ghost joked, though his tone had a spooky edge. "Heh heh heh!"

Grim looked thoughtful, his tail twitching slightly. "Spendin' time with the family while gettin' your grub on sounds nice..."

Y/N, sensing a moment of vulnerability, gently asked, "Say, what's your family like, Grim?"

"My family?" Grim echoed, his voice trailing off as he thought hard. "Hmm... I don’t remember 'em."

Y/N glanced at him with concern. "Well...you have me, Grimy. I wonder if the headmage is bringing me on vacation with him or is trying to get me home."

"If I know Crowley, he’s totally forgotten about it by now," Grim replied, shaking his head. "You better stay on his case about it, Y/N."

One of the ghosts, sensing a deeper story, floated closer. "Say, what’s your family do, Grimmy?"

"My family?" Grim repeated, though this time, his tone was softer. "I don’t remember 'em. I remember wakin' up hungry and alone. It was real cold. I was waitin' out there for someone to come get me for ages."

He paused, his blue flames flickering slightly as he tried to recall more. "What happened after that again? It’s all so foggy... But hey, I’m a forward-facin' kinda guy anyway! The future’s way cooler than the past! Especially 'cause I’m gonna be a rich and powerful sorcerer! Gah ha ha!"

The ghosts, usually so mischievous, exchanged sympathetic looks. One even sniffled. "Awww, poor little Grimmy had it rough!"

Without thinking, Y/N wrapped Grim in a gentle hug, holding him close. For a moment, the usually brash cat-like creature relaxed into the embrace, his little paws clutching Y/N's arm.

"How’d you like to spend the holidays sitting around the fireplace with us?" one of the ghosts offered kindly, trying to cheer him up.

Grim's mood brightened instantly. "Myah ha ha! If there’s good food to be had, consider me ready for some holiday cheer!"

Later, in the classroom, Professor Crewel stood at the front, his sharp gaze cutting through the room like a whip. His voice was as stern as ever. "Listen up, whelps. Your holiday vacation starts tomorrow. I’m sure all of you are foaming at the mouth to get back home."

He surveyed the room, his expression unyielding. "But every year, there’s always some foolish pup who forgets about his homework and spends the whole break goofing off. Just remember that I have a severe punishment in store for any such slackers out there. Are we clear?"

The students, eager to leave and start their vacations, all nodded in unison. "Yes, Professor!"

"You have permission to use the Dark Mirror to return home for the holidays. Report to your dorm mirror once you’ve packed your things!" Crewel added, his voice sharp and final.

As the class was dismissed, the students hurried to prepare for their trips home. But for Y/N and Grim, thoughts of family and home felt a little different this year. Grim may not remember his past, but with Y/N by his side, he had a new kind of family now—and that was enough to bring some warmth into the cold winter days ahead.

Ace let out a long sigh, stretching his arms over his head. "Ugh, finally! A break from this cramped dorm life!" His excitement was palpable as the thought of a long-awaited vacation crossed his mind.

Deuce, however, looked far less thrilled, holding up a stack of papers with a tired expression. "Good grief. Night Raven College doesn’t kid around with holiday homework. Look at all this."

Ace smirked and nudged Y/N with his elbow. "Speaking of going home, I guess you haven’t found a way back yet, babe?"

Y/N shook her head, feeling the weight of the question but keeping her tone light. "Nope, still stuck here."

Deuce glanced between the two of them, concern in his eyes. "Will you two be spending the holidays in your dorm?"

Grim, who had been lazily lounging next to Y/N, perked up at the mention of food. "Yup! We’ve made plans to have ourselves a feast with the ghosts!"

Ace raised an eyebrow. "Oh, right. There’re plenty of ghosts on campus to keep you company, so it won’t be just the two of you."

Deuce frowned, a thought suddenly occurring to him. "But when school lets out, don’t the cafeteria and school store shut down too?"

Grim’s ears shot up, his eyes wide with sudden realization. "Mrow! I didn’t even think about that. Where’m I supposed to get the food for my feast?!"

Y/N chuckled softly, patting Grim on the head. "Surely the headmage’s planned for this... If not, I can always ask Crewel to have a word with him."

Deuce nodded, still looking a bit concerned. "Sounds like you’d better check in with the headmage soon."

"Yeah," Ace chimed in, "You need Crowley’s permission to use the Dark Mirror anyway, so my guess is he’s probably around right now. Let’s find out."

With that, the small group set off to track down the headmage, hoping to sort out their holiday plans before everyone else left for home.
