The first light of dawn crept over the horizon, painting the sky in shades of soft pink and orange.
Aurelie stood by the edge of the lake, the morning mist curling around her ankles, giving the world an ethereal, dreamlike quality. Her heart raced with anticipation, her thoughts swirling as she waited for Walker.
She had barely slept after last night, her mind replaying their conversation over and over again. "Meet me at sunrise." The words echoed in her mind, filled with promise and something more that she couldn't quite grasp.
Just as the sun began to peek over the treetops, Aurelie heard footsteps approaching. She turned to see Walker walking toward her, his hands tucked into his jacket pockets, his breath visible in the cool morning air. He looked different in the soft light, almost as if he belonged to the morning itself—calm, serene, but with something simmering just beneath the surface.
"Hey," Walker greeted, his voice still a bit rough from the early hour.
"Hey," Aurelie replied, her voice soft as she offered him a small smile. Her heart thudded in her chest as Walker stepped closer, closing the distance between them until they were only a few feet apart.
They stood there for a moment, both unsure of what to say, the silence filled with everything they had yet to express. Finally, Walker broke the silence.
"I've been thinking about this a lot," Walker began, his eyes locking onto hers with an intensity that made Aurelie's breath catch. "There's something I need to tell you, and I couldn't keep it to myself any longer."
Aurelie swallowed, her heart pounding. "What is it?" she asked, her voice barely more than a whisper.
Walker took a deep breath, his eyes never leaving hers. "Aurel... I like you. I've liked you for a long time, and I've been too scared to tell you because I didn't want to mess things up between us." He paused, his expression vulnerable and sincere. "But after last night, I realized I couldn't keep it in anymore. I had to tell you. You mean too much to me to keep this to myself."
Aurelie felt her heart skip a beat, her emotions swirling inside her like a storm. She had thought about this moment so many times, but hearing Walker actually say the words felt surreal.
"I... I like you too, Walker," she admitted, her voice trembling slightly with the weight of her confession. "I've been trying to figure out how to tell you, but I didn't know how. I didn't want to ruin what we have, but I can't keep pretending that I don't feel this way about you."
Walker's face lit up with a mix of relief and happiness, a smile spreading across his lips that made Aurelie's heart flutter. "You do?" he asked, as if he couldn't quite believe it.
